DFT Centennial Plaza Choices01 It’s always a treat to spend time in the Layered by Cake boutique, checking out all of the cute new items Shannon has brought in. I was immediately drawn to this scarf as soon as my eyes locked on it. The shades of blue and brown instantly brought to mind several outfit pairings… Over a gray or cream-colored dress, with an ivory sweater and cognac knee-high boots, etc.
Navy is definitely one of my favorite hues for fall. It’s chic and comforting, but not as stark as black.

Playful Plaid

I’m so excited to bring to the blog another look featuring designs from Layered by Cake boutique!
Shannon (LBC’s owner and stylist), and I met for the first time at an event I was volunteering at, Scarlet Threads Boutique. I noticed right away her great fashion sense and energy, but after speaking with her for an hour or so, I learned of her beautiful passion for wanting to help women discover the power of great style. It’s great working with local small business-owners, and Shannon has such a great eye for what will be on-trend but not “trendy” for the season.
When she asked me to stop by and pick out some of my favorite looks to photograph for Dressed for Time, I was immediately drawn to this plaid button-down. The mix of navy, peach and baby blue was unexpected, yet a no-brainer. When it gets a bit cooler, I would button it up and pair it with this navy cardigan, a belt, and a heavier jacket on top.

Fringe Binge

Love love love this fringe kimono! It has amazing colors throughout the pattern that allow for some great shade pairings.. a teal bag, purple and blue bracelets, orangey-brown boots.. And is an ideal layering piece for making the transition from summer to fall. Kimonos can easily add that “third-piece” finishing touch when worn with a tank and shorts, a shirt and jeans, or leggings and a slim-fit tunic.

Throwback Thursday

I knew I wanted to wear this fluid ASOS maxi skirt for this shoot but when I started styling it, I found myself gravitating towards a look I’d seen many times before.. Pretty much what was hot amongst fashion bloggers a year ago! The Old Navy cutesy quote t-shirt, the statement necklace, and the sequined clutch. I realized I’d never gotten in on the fun and posted a look of my own!

Besides being comfortable and a bit cheeky (ha!), this look even has a hint of sex appeal, thanks to a thigh-high slit in the skirt. I don’t mind that it’s not the freshest or trendiest ensemble out there because it’s still cute and perfect for a Sunday brunch, which is exactly where I wore it after these pictures were shot 😉
