CA Gift Show

February 8, 2015

A quick warning, this post contains a gratuitous amount of pictures that I shot recently in LA at the California Gift Show and the Reef. As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, the Gift Show is not open to the public, but only to those who have reseller’s permits (the majority of sellers are offering their goods at wholesale prices). My mother owns a gift basket company and she frequently incorporates jewelry and décor in to her designs, which led us to our first gift show, 17 years ago.
A few things have changed since then, such as the name of the LA Mart (now, the Reef), but some are exactly the same.. Every time we walk in to the cash-and-carry portion of the show, I know it’s going to be a fun, exploratory time, and that I will leave with some great new pieces to add to my collection. This time around, I tried to take as many pictures as I could to capture all that the Gift Show (at the LA Convention Center) and the Reef have to offer.. I hope you enjoy!

This breathtaking art deco piece in the middle caught my eye and held it. Such gorgeous detail. It also happens to be made with real diamonds and thus the $25K price that’s attached to it is slightly outside my price range (OMMGGG).

Some pretty little displays at one of the Reef’s showrooms.

We hit a wall around lunchtime (so much walking!) and were happy to discover food trucks waiting for us right outside the doors at the Reef! I went with shrimp tacos and guac & chips, yumm!

I would love to be able to say that D.L.&Co. are my favorite candle company, based on their scents alone, but alas, I am not rolling in dough and cannot afford the $85 and up price tag that they command. So pretty though..

Everything from this jewelry line was just calling out my name! Unfortunately, they had a minimum order (including how many of each piece you had to purchase) so I didn’t buy any of them, but a girl can dream!

I love this bag! It’s fun and fresh and big enough to hold all the makeup and tools you’d need for a trip.

We finished our day with some sushi at one of my mom’s favorite spots. This is the schwarma roll (how they named it that, I have no clue!) but it has jalapeno, cilantro, and spicy tuna on top which make for quite a hot little bite!

Whew! I had so much fun at this year’s winter show and picked up some great little finds (such as my recent post on the necklaces I got from Kyle Chan!) and can’t wait for the next one in July… Who knows what that one will have in store for me!
Which leads me to the question I’m curious to hear your response on… Would you prefer just making a couple of multi-item or haul purchases a year (such as at a big sale or event) or do you prefer to make multiple small purchases throughout the year on random items?

😀

La Jolla, CA

February 7, 2015

Despite my hectic work schedule, I was able to get away last weekend with my honey to the amazingly beautiful coastal town of La Jolla, CA! We truly needed a little mini-vacay, and are so lucky to have so many options just a couple of hours drive away. We did have to cut things short to get back home to watch the Superbowl, but still had plenty of time to explore…

Late Friday night after checking in to the Inn, we were starved after a long work day and the drive. We came across the most quaint Italian restaurant and I ordered a seafood ravioli to rival any I’ve ever had before. Every bite was more extraordinary than the last. A bottle of chianti shared between us didn’t hurt either 😉

The next morning, we headed out for a little 3 mile jog along the coastline.

I brought along my newest New Balance running shoes to break in and came across this shell-flecked part of the path that I quickly fell in love with. The iridescent shades shimmered under the sun, and made me stop for a little while to appreciate such simple beauty.

NY

January 14, 2015

New York at the holidays. I can’t think of a more perfect time to visit. Yes, it was chilly, but that made it that more delightful to slip in to a little coffee shop for a cappuccino or French restaurant for a bowl of soup and to watch through the windows as people walk by. And, also, sales! In addition to the J.Crew jewelry I’ve already posted, I made my first ever venture into Inglot! I’ve been following the brand for a while now, but can’t exactly say that it’s accessible in the states. I was so happy to take a crash course tour of the island of Manhattan; below, some highlights.

Waiting for our flight, I started a new book and cozied up in my new snow boots from Sorel. Coat from Forever 21, bucket bag from Old Navy.

Myself, Mark and Mark’s brother, Jack, at the incredibly inventive restaurant/gourmet grocery store hybrid, Eatily. I LOVED the concept of different little stations for crudo, vegetables, paninis, etc. Given the option by such courteous gentleman, I chose the crudo station. Succccch a good decision.

Fresh tuna wrapped in roasted red pepper with kalamata olives and olive oil (one of many awesome small plates we sampled.)

This trip, my first to New York, was one of the most special and meaningful trips I’ve ever been on. Spending time with the family of the love of my life and seeing how everyone comes together with love and support… Touched my heart. I can’t wait to go back to experience more of all that New York has to offer.

Dog Beach

January 4, 2015

I’ll be very blunt with this statement.. We have the cutest dogs ever. For real. Emily with her shagginess and cute little face, and Beau with his energetic playfulness; I seriously think we’re the luckiest people to have adopted two completely awesome rescue pups. Over the weekend, we drove the two hours south to San Diego to stay at the Ocean Villa, a very dog-friendly establishment, and to visit with my grandparents. The pups had the best time during their first ever trip to the dog beach, and the weather could not have been more perfect for such an occasion. Below, check out the cuteness!!
