Getting Your Best StitchFix Ever

DSC_0259Hey, babes!
I hope everyone has had an incredible beginning to the New Year! Mine has been SUPER productive, and I am so excited to share that I have been spending a lot of my time planning my upcoming trip to New York Fashion Week! It’s less than a month away, so believe me when I say that I’m a little stressed getting everything lined up. Back to present day, I’m happy to bring you this month’s StitchFix, but this round is a little different… I’m also going to be sharing how to get your best fix EVER by communicating with your stylist, how to truly voice your opinion, and what I feel makes for the best fix.

In case you’ve been under a rock and haven’t heard about the awesomeness that is StitchFix, it is a service that delivers curated pieces to your door as frequently as you like. You fill out a detailed questionnaire, including how much you’d like to spend, your body shape, areas you like to flaunt/hide, and so much more, so they can really get to know your style. You send back what you don’t like, and they only keep the $20 styling fee if you don’t purchase anything from the fix, otherwise it goes towards whatever you buy, AND you get 25% off if you buy everything.

First up, communication is KEY! There are several ways to make your voice heard with your stylist. The one I always get very detailed on is the “note to stylist,” where I can request specific pieces for events, certain fabrics, lengths, anything that I would like to wear in the next couple months. When I was headed to Vegas year before last, I requested a “Vegas-worthy midi dress,” and for a brunch with the girls, I wanted an “off-the-shoulder floral top,” and that’s exactly what I received. I love that the stylists try so hard to match up my requests, and sometimes I wonder how much time they must spend searching for the perfect item for me!

I’ve also thrown out pretty broad requests, like in this fix, I wanted a pair of dark distressed jeans, colored blazer, and another midi dress. I was super happy with the pieces they selected, although the blazer was just a touch snug, so I’m currently wearing it as a cape! It’s also important to give feedback on past fixes, such as when something was too tight in the hips (usually the case with button-down shirts for me), or too short (I generally don’t wear anything above the knee). Once your stylist knows your tastes and fit more in more depth, they can use that info when planning your next fix.

Another way to share your style preferences is through creating and sharing a Pinterest board. We’re already all spending hours a day on Pinterest anyway haha, so start creating a board of styles you would actually wear, and link it for your stylist in your StitchFix profile! I have tons of midi skirts, floral prints, comfy cardigans, and fun work looks on mine. I know my stylist references it whenever she’s planning a fix for me, because influences from it are so apparent with her choices. It’s also so important, I believe, to focus on your lifestyle and what you truly will wear. If you work an 8-5, only go out to meet the girls for brunch, and don’t like showing your legs, than it’s probably not the best idea to link a street-style thigh-grazing look that you’ll never get any use out of. By the same token, if you’d like to get a little adventurous with color, patterns and prints, and maybe highlighting your décolletage for instance, don’t be afraid to share some pins that pull elements you’d like to experiment with.

I hope these tips have been helpful for you! It’s taken me a little bit to get my bearings with the service, but as you can tell by this being my 28th fix (!!!), I truly am enjoying it. StitchFix is offering to all of my readers their first styling fee waived! Now you have nothing to lose, and a closet full of cute clothes to gain 😀

The color of this blazer is so unexpected, and actually pairs with more in my closet than I anticipated. I can definitely picture pairing it with a floral skirt, or jeans and a white tee.

The mesh cutout on the back of this top is such a cute and interesting detail! I loved making a jeans and tee combo just a little bit fancier and brunch-worthy by adding a statement necklace and gold-specked ankle booties.

This top is definitely my favorite find of the fix. Mark and I went out to date night in this very outfit after my shoot, and I definitely turned some heads! The color is so saturated and the ruffle neckline is very flattering!

Don’t forget, all of my readers get their styling fee waived on their first fix! Hope you enjoy!

August Stitch Fix Review

August 24, 2017

August Stitch Fix Review - Red top and cropped denimHello, babes!
My August Stitch Fix Review has arrived, woohoo! It’s so surreal to say August, geeze. I’m going to be 32 in a couple months, and I feel like that number is definitely creeping up on me! Anyway, on to the fix and the end-of-summertasticness that it tuned out to be. This round, I asked for an off-shoulder top, some colorful tanks, and a new maxi dress.
I’ll start with the maxi dress, which was most definitely my least favorite piece in my fix. I’m not a self-hater by far, but trust me when I say that this is a dress that will only look flattering on a super skinny chick. It’s one of those dresses that clings to every little part of you, accentuating EVERYTHING. Also the self-tie belt was a little ridiculous. The rest of the pieces those were SO cute and perfect for the season. Read on to hear my thoughts on the rest of this month’s fix..

August Stitch Fix Review - Embroidered Summer Top August Stitch Fix Review - Summer Embroidered Top Top / Stitch Fix // Capris / Old Navy // Bag / Forever 21 // Necklace / Gorjana

This embroidered-neck top was SO cute when I pulled it out of the box, but wearability because such an issue with this one. It looked off wearing a bralette, because of the neckline, but because of the sheerness, you could see my strapless bra quite visibly. At $32, it was a great deal, but I kind of have to be able to wear a bra.
Top, $32, returned.

August Stitch Fix Review - Floral Top and Jeans August Stitch Fix Review - Summer Floral Top Tank / Stitch Fix // Cropped denim / Old Navy // Bag / Botkier // Long & Short necklaces / Gorjana from Rocksbox (use code “kristinbff320” for your first month free) // Sandals / JustFab

Ahhhh, this print! So vivid, so cheery and floral. The lace-up detailing is a cute touch, and I love that the bag and shoe pairings with this top are endless.
Tank, $36, kept.

August Stitch Fix Review - Lemon Off Shoulder Top August Stitch Fix Review - Summer Off the Shoulder BlouseCitrus top / Stitch Fix // Cropped jeans // Old Navy // Choker lariat / Poppy Apparel (use code “dressedfortime” at checkout for 10% off) // Bag / Nordstrom // Sandals / Just Fab

“Totes adorbs” is the first thought that came to mind when trying on this top. At second glance, though, it was a little bit, and also had a small snag in the front. I tried to swap it out for a smaller size, but it wasn’t available, so, at $48, it was sent back.

August Stitch Fix Review - Striped Maxi DressThis silly thing, haha. At $58, it wasn’t the most I’d ever spend on a maxi dress, but I would pay more for one that fit better. Dress, returned.

August Stitch Fix Review - Split-Neck Top and Cropped Jeans August Stitch Fix Review - Red Summer Top Top / Stitch Fix // Cropped distressed jeans / Old Navy // Bag / Trive Alive from the Box of Style // Choker / Gorjana // Sandals / JustFab

So this top I was on the fence about until the end. It had a sheer printed bandana-like material on the back, but the front just seemed a touch basic to me. Not special enough to warrant keeping.
Top, $48, returned.

Overall, I thought I was going to be keeping more from this fix, but after remembering I’m really trying to pare down my wardrobe to basics and pieces I can’t live without, I kept only the one tank that I fell in love with. I hope you enjoyed my August Stitch Fix review!

July Stitch Fix Review

July 20, 2017

July Stitch Fix Review - Print Maxi DressHello, bombshells!
Another month, another fix! As this seemingly endless heat continues, I’m so happy that my Stitch Fix stylist sent over a bunch of fun items appropriate for the season. I pretty much always request more maxi dresses, and this time I had two great ones to choose from. I ended up choosing two items this round; keep reading on to view my July Stitch Fix Review to find out which ones I fell in love with!
July Stitch Fix Review - Cold Shoulder Top & Cropped Cargos July Stitch Fix Review - Cold Shoulder Top and Cropped Cargo PantsTop & Cropped pants / Stitch Fix // Heeled sandals / Abound at Nordstrom Rack // Choker / JustFab // Sunnies / Amazon

I had requested something off-shoulder or open-shoulder and while I wasn’t in love with this top right out of the box, it definitely did grow on me! Same goes for the pants. I was like “hello, 90’s” and not in a good way, but when I slipped them on, I realized how versatile they could be. The price tag had me wincing though, so they went back. The top, I felt I would get plenty of use out of through summer and beyond, (this is SoCal after all), so I kept it.
Top, $54, kept; Cropped cargos, $118.

July Stitch Fix Review - Print Maxi Dress for Summer July Stitch Fix Review - Print Maxi Dress and Tassel NecklaceDress / Stitch Fix // Platforms / JustFab // Necklace / LA find // Sunnies / Amazon

The first of two lovely maxis this fix, this blue, black and tan printed material felt so luxe and great against my skin. I adore the faux wrap front and knotted straps. It also hugged my curves in all the right places, and even though some styles like this gape at the bust because I’m smaller-chested, this one didn’t!
Maxi dress, $78, kept.

July Stitch Fix Review - Plaid Shirt and Cropped Pants July Stitch Fix Review - Button Down and Cropped CargosPlaid top & Cropped cargos / Stitch Fix // T-shirt / Old Navy // Necklace / J. Crew // Sunnies / Amazon // Sneakers / Target

I was happy to see a super soft plaid included in my box, but who the heck pays $88 for one? Not me. It wasn’t any better quality that I could detect than one from Old Navy or Forever 21. Super cute but not worth near $100 with tax.
Button-down, $88, returned.

July Stitch Fix Review - Print and Crochet Maxi Dress with Steve Madden sandals July Stitch Fix Review - Crochet maxi dress and flat sandalsDress / Stitch Fix // Sandals / Steve Madden // Necklace / LA find // Sunnies / Amazon

So, this dress… I wanted to love. The print is lovely, it fit well, the little crochet bit was really pretty, and a great length to wear with flats. The only downside was that I realized it was also $78, like the dress I ended up keeping, and that spending over $150 on two maxi dresses was not the wisest decision. This print/crochet also brought to mind something I might be able to find at the mall for $30, so this one went back.

All in all, my July Stitch Fix was WAY out of my price-range, and I let my stylist know it. Apparently, my previous stylist, whom I loved, has left the company. Jessica chose some really cute items, but not within my budget at all. The total for these items before discount was $416, and $312 after. No, thank you.
When I reached out with my feedback of the fix, the customer service team wrote back to reassure me that it wouldn’t happen again. I have my profile set to “as cheap as it gets”, with the exception of outerwear which I’m willing to spend a little more on. All things considered, I kept the cold-shoulder top and the polka dot maxi dress. Not my best fix, but overall I was happy with what I kept.
I hope you enjoyed my July Stitch Fix Review!
Until next fix 😉

Latest Stitch Fix Review & Giveaway!

June 16, 2017

Latest Stitch Fix Review & Giveaway!Hello, loves!
This month’s Stitch Fix review is extra special because I’ve partnered with them for a giveaway! More to come after all of the details of my most recent fix, and spoiler alert, it was a GOOD one 😀

Latest Stitch Fix Review & Giveaway! Latest Stitch Fix Review & Giveaway! Latest Stitch Fix Review & Giveaway!Top & Jeans (and necklace from a previous fix) / Stitch Fix // Bracelet / Kyle Chan Design // Mules / Abound at Nordstrom Rack // Jacket / Gap // Sunnies / Amazon // Crossbody bag / Forever 21
My stylist thought I would love this pair of colored denim.. And she was right! They fit well and actually pair really nicely with solids and print tops. I didn’t notice they are “cropped” which for this pair means just a touch above my ankle. I’ve had this issue before with cropped pairs, that it doesn’t look intentional, so I cuffed these up a bit.
The top is definitely up my alley as well, combining some of my favorite things… Floral print, polka dots and lace! It was tiny bit snug around my hips, but nothing too uncomfortable to stop me from wearing it.
Jeans, $78 and top, $48, kept.

Latest Stitch Fix Review & Giveaway! Latest Stitch Fix Review & Giveaway!Cardigan & jeans / Stitch Fix // Wedges / JustFab (similar) // Blouse / Daniel Rainn at Nordstrom Rack
See, these jeans pair well with so many things! I was super excited to pull out this embroidered, dolman-sleeve cardigan, right up until I noticed the long sleeves, eek! It’s 96 degrees outside right now, so I will have to reserve this piece for cooler nights or bring it back out around fall. Still a keeper though, because it’s just so cute!
Cardigan, $58, kept.

A $28 light layering piece in a cute print, come on! This kimono I knew I was definitely going to keep. I could wear it over a black tank dress, with a black tee and jeans, or even over my swimsuit. Such an easy “third-piece” item.
Kimono, $28, kept.

Last but not least, this elevated basic grey top. It does look kind of plain from the front, so I added a lovely (and sparkly!) statement necklace to jazz it up a bit. I love the knotted detail on the back and can see myself pairing it with a little lacy bralette peeking out as summer progresses, or when fall comes around again, a vivid print scarf.
Top, $38, kept.

All in all, I kept… Everything!
I was super happy with this fix.. From the fit of the items, to how well they suit my clothing personality, and the price points were very reasonable for me.

CONTEST ENDED!! Now on to the fun stuff! I’ve partnered with Stitch Fix to offer one lucky winner a $50 gift card towards a fix! Keep it for yourself or give it to someone as a gift, although you know what I would say! To enter, you just need to fill out a Style Profile and then come back here to comment “done!” That’s it! The best part is, all existing Stitch Fix members will be automatically entered to win, as long as they comment “done” below! We will be checking to make sure that a profile has been filled out, so if you did it a while ago, make sure to edit to fit your current preferences. This contest will run until 6/25/17 at 5PM PST and the winner will be chosen at random and announced via email shortly after.  Good luck, ladies!
