Spring Florals with Gwynnie Bee

April 23, 2016

Spring Florals with Gwynnie BeeEvery time I hear the term “spring florals” or basically just those two words in the same sentence, it brings to mind a quote from one of my favorite love-to-hate-it movies, The Devil Wears Prada. The line of course being “Florals? For Spring? Groundbreaking.” Delivered with such dry wit from the inimitable fashion magnate, Miranda Priestly. It really does make you think though, like pulling out a floral-print blouse or pleated skirt for Spring brunch date doesn’t seem original at all. And yet.. it works. Every time. As you may know, I’m perfectly fine rocking floral prints year round, but there’s just something so sweet about wearing those designs when the flowers are actually in bloom.

This dress is another loaner from the curve-friendly rental house Gwynnie Bee. I’ve been enjoying renting from them for the past few months, but I think my experience is soon going to come to a close. It’s just too expensive for me at around $75/mo. for 2 items out at a time. There are some perks to the program.. For instance, you can alert them that you’re going to be sending something back and they will automatically start preparing your next shipment. You’re not getting that with Rent the Runway. RTR has a couple days turnaround, and that’s AFTER they receive your items back in house. I also like that they updated items on a near-daily basis, so there was always lots to choose from and to add to my wishlist. I’ve purchased a couple of the items they sent, and at a considerable discount off retail, which is awesome! The negatives would be that not everything is available in my size.. I’m a 12, and when I would pull up the new items, I’d click on something cute, only to find it wasn’t available in anything smaller than a 1X. So I’d have to remember to plug in my size to filter the results, and that would always end up taking away several cute options. In all honesty, if I didn’t have the admittedly overfull closet that I do have, and was looking for things to wear to work meetings or on business trips, I would definitely continue on with my subscription. Since I do have an abundance of things, I generally look to rental houses for special occasion pieces to wear to events, which I find Gwynnie Bee was really lacking. Their clothing is definitely more of an everyday, wear it to work or even a night out or for a date type feel, and I feel that I need something more upscale for that price tag.

Festival Style with BohoCheri

April 13, 2016

Festival Style with BohoCheriHello, loves!
Today I wanted to share with you some festival style with BohoCheri, a local boutique that I adore. They have so many fresh looks for Coachella, or any other festival, and the staff couldn’t be more friendly and helpful. I, unfortunately, won’t be making it to Coachella this year, due to staffing issues at my day job, but I love to still put together some festival-worthy outfits to celebrate the occasion.
Festival style to me is all about comfort and practicality, while embracing a boho aesthetic. I love lace-up sandals and low stacked heels, breezy dresses and maxi skirts, light layers that you can add or subtract, depending on the weather (like this crochet vest, which adds not much warmth but a lot of texture to the look). I’m not a shorts girl, but I enjoy seeing others in them, especially when paired with lace-up tanks or off-the-shoulder blouses. For jewelry, I love when people really pile it on… Layered necklaces, stacks of bangles, rings on every finger. When it comes to bags, you’ve got to rock a crossbody. For walking around all day, nothing is better than a crossbody bag  for carrying your essentials, but also for being out of the way and hands-free to let you enjoy the moment. No one wants to be bothered with a clutch when they’re at a concert. This leather bag from BohoCheri is a new favorite of mine. I love that it’s big enough to hold the things you’ll need for the day, but it also has a gorgeous stone and chain, which act as built-in jewelry. It’s pretty much a no-brainer for a boho luxe look.

What’s your go-to festival style? Boho glam in print maxi dresses? Rock ‘n roll in a vintage tee and cut-offs? Or maybe it’s playfully sexy in a little romper? I’d love to hear your take on the theme 😉

March StitchFix

April 11, 2016

Hello, loves!
I wanted to share with you all my March StitchFix. I’ve received another one since, so yes, I am quite behind! But I still wanted to share nonetheless. This fix I unfortunately was not able to leave any feedback for before my stylist put it together for me. I learned how much of a difference that can make when your items get selected, as nothing that was sent is really a piece I would reach for, more about that for each item below. The stylist said that she referenced my Pinterest board for inspiration, but I don’t think took as much in to consideration my body shape or age.
March StitchfixSo both the top and pants are StitchFix. The top was entirely too short on me, and the slip was ridiculously cropped on my frame. I liked the material and the overall style of the blouse, but this is definitely for someone more petite than I. The pants I knew upon taking them out of the box were not going to be right for me. They had this retro geometric pattern but in an obnoxious shade of blue that I knew I would have a lot of difficultly pairing with more than just a couple of things in my closet. Back they both went..
Heels / Calvin Klein

March Stitchfix I did mostly enjoy this dress, except for that extra drapey bit under the bust. No one wants droopiness near their bust area! Maybe if I had more to fill it out haha..  I was initially bothered by the print, especially around the hips and booty, but it actually worked! The cut was flattering and I think it would be nice in warmer weather when I don’t want to show my arms. It went back though, because it was $78. Way too much for a dress of this quality.
Necklace / BaubleBar // Sandals / KMart

March StitchfixThis top was pretty cute but a bit snug. It had a little cutout on the back and a grosgrain ribbon at the neck that bugged the hell out of me. It was also almost $50 for what boiled down to a t-shirt. Back it went.
Jeans / Old Navy // Flats / BCBG

img_8651.jpg The item that I actually ended up keeping, to save my styling credit from being wasted was this multi-layered necklace. It is something I can see myself wearing a decent amount and wasn’t overpriced at $28. It does get a bit tangled, but I think that’s kind of the nature of all layered necklaces like these.

All in all, not my favorite fix by far, but my next one was so much better, and I’ll be sharing it here soon!

Monochromatic Summer

April 8, 2016

Monochromatic Summer LookHello, loves!
Let me start by saying that this weather is drivin’ me nuts! I know, I know, it’s Southern California and I should just be accustomed to it all by now. However, the 92 and sunny one day to 60 and raining the next just does not allow one to plan outfits properly! I’m not even saying for photo shoots, just for life in general. The day that we shot this monochromatic summer look, which by the way, I’m kind of obsessed with, it was at least 90 degrees out. In the shade, it was completely tolerable, and when the cool breeze washed over us, it was even blissful. Flash forward to today and it is raining and just dreary outside. I know that we need the rain, that I’m fine with. But I wish we could just ease in to it, instead of switching from flip flops to boots from one day to the next, that’s all I’m saying!
On to the look of the day.. While at the Boss Notes event this past weekend, I took it upon myself to explore all that the Westfield Topanga mall had to offer. Lucky me, I wandered in to Anthropologie during their sale-on-sale and found a couple of super cute tops for only $30 each! This drapey, buttery sleeveless top was one of them. I knew right off the bat that I wanted to go monochromatic with it, although I’ll probably also end up pairing it with a printed pencil skirt. I’ve been wearing my Old Navy black skinnies constantly, so why break the habit. To finish the look, I added this black & white bag from Poverty Flats by Rian, and these fantastic wedges from Diane Von Furstenberg, both recent acquisitions from the most recent Nordstrom Rack Clear the Rack sale. Such great finds.

Side note, as I’m sure you can tell especially from the last pic, I’ve decided to keep this blonde train moving, and might even end up going back to my, ahem, roots, of near platinum/baby blonde. I really missed being blonde and I’m loving these fresh locks for summer.

Speaking of changing up your ‘do, do you like to freshen up your color for the warmer months? Either brighter or warmer? Or do you keep it the same throughout the year?
