Aspen in Spring with Maggy London

May 21, 2017

Aspen in Spring with Maggy LondonHey, hey there!
If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably already caught several views of this gorgeous look I created in partnership with Maggy London. I wanted to share the full look here, and link directly to this dress so you can shop it here! I’m obsessed with this brushstroke-like print and the swooshes of blue against the crisp white. The pleated skirt is so flattering, and I love that it can be worn with or without a belt to change up the look.
Dresses like this are the bread & butter in my closet… styles that can easily transition from work to brunch to shopping with my mom. Throw on a sparkly belt or statement necklace and stilettos for a night out with the bf or a braided belt and cute white sandals for running errands and a coffee date.
Maggy London has some great dresses out right now, and I definitely added myself to their email list to get first pick when they go on sale, which is often! I will say that this style runs slightly large, so I would recommend sizing down. Shop the Aspen here, and while you’re at it, check out the Avery and the Mindy (my new favorite that I have my eye on… the print is incredible!)
Enjoy the rest of the shoot!

In the Style Spring Collection

May 16, 2017

In the Style Spring Collection - Blush Trench Hello, loves!
Today I’m sharing with you a look featuring items from a cool brand that I’ve just discovered, called In the Style. They’re a UK brand that has been around for a few years and focus on trendy, sexy pieces at really great prices. They have a straight-size section, as well as a “Curve” section, the latter of which I shopped to create this look.
It’s not like I should have been surprised when I pulled the oversized t-shirt dress out of the package… But I was, because it was short. So stinkin’ short, I was almost thinking I was going to have to send it back! After I got to playing around in my closet a bit, I thought to pair it with some patterned tights for a bit more coverage, and it totally gave me the confidence to rock this look! I’ve never been one to wear a dress or skirt that’s more than a couple inches above my knees, which this one definitely passed, but I made it work.
I paired it with a light, unlined trench coat in the color-of-the-moment, blush, along with some ankle booties and this uber cute embroidered velvet bag. The look definitely needed some sparkle, so I added this five-strand necklace that I’m obsessed with. TBH, the booties are a wee bit uncomfortable after wearing them for a while, and I think that is due to the slope of the heel. The bag I’ve worn with jeans and a cute top, and I love that the zipper glided very easily. Thankfully, we’ve had a bit of a cold front around here recently, so I’ve had the opportunity to wear this trench again. While it doesn’t offer too much in terms of warmth, as to be expected, it does add a fun pop of color to an otherwise muted look.

The Versatility of an LBD

September 24, 2016

London Times Black Lace Dress with Heels  Hi loves!
I’d like to talk about something I think that everyone, and I mean everyone, should have in their closet, the little black dress! They can be worn for pretty much any occasion, from work to play, to a wedding or a funeral, to cocktail parties or for date night. With the addition (or sometimes subtraction) of accessories, shoes, and jewelry, almost every LBD can be worn to multiple events, on the same day if necessary!
When looking for versatility in an LBD, I search for one with a few key factors…
Length – at my work, nothing shorter than knee-length will fly. If you’re in a more casual work environment, or your day doesn’t consist of heading in to an office, a shorter hemline is fine, just keep the taste level in check.
Neckline – the same goes in this respect for keeping it classy. You can always add on sparkly accessories and sky-high heels for after-hours, but a plunging V isn’t usually going to work for at the office, limiting it’s versatility.
Fabric – I shy away from anything particularly delicate if it’s a piece I want to get tons of use out of. Also, less sturdy fabrics have a tendency to wrinkle more easily, and it kind of takes away from the day-to-night appeal if you have to steam your dress in-between!
Embellishments – I love a beaded neckline or fun trim, just picture which accessories will pair well with a dress that already has a bit of it’s own personality.
Waistline – It may sound like a funny thing to take in to consideration, but I generally search for dresses that will look great when worn with a belt. A drop-waist or empire-waist dress wouldn’t work with a belt, so I avoid those styles.

Here, I’m wearing a gorgeous dress from the new London Times Curve Fall Collection. This style and other great LBD’s are now available online. This one was love at first sight, because I adore the mixed textures, the high neckline (to truly highlight a statement necklace), and you all know lace is pretty much my favorite thing. I could easily pair it with a bright cardigan and flats for work, layered under a trench coat with tights and booties in cooler weather, or with metallic accessories and a bold red lip. Perfection!

What’s your favorite way to style an LBD?
I’d love to hear in the comments below.

Gwynnie Bee Spring Trends Guide

March 31, 2016

Hello loves!
Today, I wanted to share with you the brand new Gwynnie Bee Spring Trends Guide that I’m loving. In it, you’ll find floral prints, materials ranging from scuba to lace, and updated work and lounge wear, all from the plus size clothing rental company Gwynnie Bee. They actually have smaller sizes as well, starting at a 10 and up to a 32. Even if you aren’t able to wear the sizes they offer, you can still get some great ideas for Spring dressing. I generally reach for a 12, and have been able to find a lot of options in my size, including this adorable skirt, which I ended up buying from them for just $31. It is in the still on-trend scuba material and has this gorgeous abstract floral pattern.

GwynnieBee Spring Trends Guide I paired it with a light pink blouse with lace collar (Fun2Fun from StitchFix), white leather shoulder bag (Cambridge Satchel Company from the Box of Style), and tan lace-up laser-cut heels (Dolce Vita).
The guides focus on three specific trends for Spring – Graphic Black & White, The New Romance, and The Blues. My favorite is, of course, the New Romance guide, because I love anything feminine and romantical. A few standout looks from the guide have got to be the laser-cut leather-like skirt paired with a floral & lace tank, and the striped/floral dress paired with a denim jacket, bucket bag and bright sandals. Those are two looks I will definitely be planning on putting into rotation this season. I love lookbooks like these because they really do take some of the guesswork out of what’s hot and trends to focus on. Easy peasy 😀
