May Stitch Fix

June 12, 2016

Hi loves!
Oye, I’m getting really (and embarrassingly) behind on these! I’ll try my best to catch up, as I’ve already shot the looks for June! Le sigh. Anyway, on to the goodies! For my May Stitch Fix, I requested from my stylist a colorful crossbody bag, a bright pair of cropped bottoms (jeans or capris, etc.), a sheer blouse for work and a comfy pair of flats. I would say that she delivered on half of those requests.
You may have already seen the slouchy crossbody bag (from Octavia & Co.) in my hippie chic maxi dress post here…

May Stitchfix - Octavia Crossbody Bag May Stitchfix Crossbody BagI really love how vibrant this bag is. It looks great when paired with neutral tones, like I did here, but also could stand up to other brights or against a busy print. It has tons of interior space, as well as a flap that folds over and opens up to even more storage. At first, I was worried that it might be one of those bags that anything that you put inside, you can see it from the outside (such as a cell phone, notepad, etc.), but the shape stays pretty much the same unless you overload it. The strap is also long enough to wear as a shoulder bag or crossbody. Basically, I love this bag haha!
Crossbody bag – $48, purchased.

May StitchfixNext up was this satiny sleeveless split neck top. I LOVED the print and fabric and it was slightly shorter in the front than in the back, which would have been pretty flattering had it fit. It was perfect in the bust, but way too snug around the hips. It was returned due to fit issues. Top, $58, not purchased.

May StitchfixWhen I first pulled this blouse out of the box, I was a little iffy on the print. Then I realized how versatile it is! You could build an outfit around it, mixing it with pastels or neons, jeans, so many options! It was, again, too tight around my hips so it had to go back. Blouse, $48, not purchased.

May Stitchfix Dolce Vita SlidesThese Dolce Vita slides really aren’t my style but I thought I would try them on to see if I could make them work.. The answer to that would be no, haha! They made a hideous squeaky noise and literally flopped off my feet when I tried to walk in them. At the shocking price of $70, they went right back.

May StitchfixLastly, I received these suuuuuper vibrant cropped pants from Kut from the Kloth. They were reasonably priced at $58, which I think is fair for well-made pants. I can’t say they’re the most versatile bottoms I’ve ever owned, but they can pair with black, white, other jewel tones and fun prints, which is perfect for summer. Cropped pants, $58, purchased.

Overall, I adored the styles of almost everything I was sent, but the sizing was a bit off. It’s not totally my stylist’s fault, as I’ve put on a few pounds unexpectedly over the past few weeks. I’d like to think it’s because I’ve been working out more often and that I’m gaining muscle, that is the happy thought haha!

I’d love to know about any experiences you’ve had with Stitch Fix!
😀

March StitchFix

April 11, 2016

Hello, loves!
I wanted to share with you all my March StitchFix. I’ve received another one since, so yes, I am quite behind! But I still wanted to share nonetheless. This fix I unfortunately was not able to leave any feedback for before my stylist put it together for me. I learned how much of a difference that can make when your items get selected, as nothing that was sent is really a piece I would reach for, more about that for each item below. The stylist said that she referenced my Pinterest board for inspiration, but I don’t think took as much in to consideration my body shape or age.
March StitchfixSo both the top and pants are StitchFix. The top was entirely too short on me, and the slip was ridiculously cropped on my frame. I liked the material and the overall style of the blouse, but this is definitely for someone more petite than I. The pants I knew upon taking them out of the box were not going to be right for me. They had this retro geometric pattern but in an obnoxious shade of blue that I knew I would have a lot of difficultly pairing with more than just a couple of things in my closet. Back they both went..
Heels / Calvin Klein

March Stitchfix I did mostly enjoy this dress, except for that extra drapey bit under the bust. No one wants droopiness near their bust area! Maybe if I had more to fill it out haha..  I was initially bothered by the print, especially around the hips and booty, but it actually worked! The cut was flattering and I think it would be nice in warmer weather when I don’t want to show my arms. It went back though, because it was $78. Way too much for a dress of this quality.
Necklace / BaubleBar // Sandals / KMart

March StitchfixThis top was pretty cute but a bit snug. It had a little cutout on the back and a grosgrain ribbon at the neck that bugged the hell out of me. It was also almost $50 for what boiled down to a t-shirt. Back it went.
Jeans / Old Navy // Flats / BCBG

img_8651.jpg The item that I actually ended up keeping, to save my styling credit from being wasted was this multi-layered necklace. It is something I can see myself wearing a decent amount and wasn’t overpriced at $28. It does get a bit tangled, but I think that’s kind of the nature of all layered necklaces like these.

All in all, not my favorite fix by far, but my next one was so much better, and I’ll be sharing it here soon!

Birchbox vs. Ipsy Roundup

August 27, 2015

I’m trying to stay more on top of these posts, so this round will only cover two months of Ipsy and Birchbox subscriptions. I have to say that I was impressed at the hair items I received, especially the Oribe sample. I love Oribe’s products but at an average cost of $25-40, the line isn’t exactly something I can swing for everyday use. It’s great to get to try out mini’s before I splurge for a full-size 😉

IMG_3835-0.jpgIpsy – July
First off, the bag is pretty cute. It’s a nice vivid ikat print.
Ofra Cosmetics Bliss eyeshadow/highlighter (I’ve been using this only as shadow, as it would be pretty dark to highlight with.)
Bare Republic Naturals Tinted Mineral Face Sunscreen Lotion
Eva-NYC Freshen Up Dry Shampoo
Be A Bombshell Cosmetics lip balm in French Kiss
Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Bronzer

IMG_3836-0.jpgBirchbox
Love the Oribe sample, and this Stila liquid lipstick is quite pretty too.
Oribe Apres Beach Wave & Shine Spray
Juara Radiance Enzyme Scrub
theBalm Balm Desert bronzer
Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick
Supergoop Anti-Aging City Sunscreen Serum SPF 30
July’s winner… Tie! I really like the hair products in both sets, both offered up great bronzers and solid lip colors.

IMG_3834-0.jpgIpsy – August
Meh to the bag, it looks really cheap.
Marc Anthony Nourishing Argan Oil of Morocco Treatment
Pencil Me In Cosmetics Natural Eye Pencil in Boysenberry
Marsk Pro-Line eyeshadow brush
Hikari Cosmetics Salsa lip gloss
Skone Cosmetics Luxe Doubler Lip/Eye Pencil in Wine
OK, so I’m all for a multi-tasking beauty product, but I don’t think there is ANY way for a liner to be as effective on the eyes as it is on the lips (and vice versa!). The one included in this month’s bag has some questionable ingredients, so I’ll probably just toss it. Also, to get two burgundy/purple liners in the same month is a bit weird, not to mention redundant.

IMG_3833-0.jpgBirchbox
Woohoo for OPI nail polish minis! I’m also intrigued to try out the St. Tropez in-shower lotion. I have no idea how I’m going to wash off my hands without washing it off the rest of my body, I may have to do a review on that later haha!
OPI Nail Polish in Amore at the Grand Canal
Laqa & Co Cheeky Lip Tint in Humble Brag
St. Tropez Gradual Tan In Shower Lotion
Renee Furturer LISSEA Leave-In Smoothing Fluid
Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion Skin Exfoliant
August’s winner… Birchbox! It wasn’t hard to beat the cheap bag with two oddly hued liners.

After making the statement to my co-workers that I would be dropping one of my beauty subscription service, I, um, didn’t. I feel like I get different things from both of them! I love trying new makeup shades, and Ipsy really gives me that opportunity. I’m also constantly on the lookout for new skin and haircare lines, and Birchbox is perfect for that. Oh well. The saga continues…

Graze Box: A Review

April 18, 2015

Several weeks ago, I was given the opportunity to try the Graze snack box subscription after a deal came across Groupon that was just too tempting to resist.. I’ve always been a fan of subscription services, (we know this!), and currently have them for everything from makeup, skin and hair products (Birchbox and Ipsy), to blouses (Elizabeth & Clarke), and of course my beloved Rent the Runway unlimited membership, among others.. But the idea of food being shipped to me didn’t really strike as something I “needed.” Well, now, that’s all changed, because I feel like I can’t get enough of these boxes!
Here’s the deal.. You go to their website,
Graze.com, and chose from several options, like strictly sweet or savory or a mix of everything, a 4 or 8 pack.. You can even go more in depth and choose which snacks, amongst over a hundred choices, that you would like or would not care to receive (all nutritional and allergy info is listed). I prefer to be surprised, so I just let it ride with whatever they had in store for me. You also select the frequency at which you’d like the boxes delivered.
My first box did take a few weeks to arrive, but I feel that’s normal with any subscription service, until they get you in the loop. Here’s what I got my first time around:

IMG_0963
They come stashed in these cute, themed boxes, and are in little packs that you can just grab and go. I’ve yet to find one that requires a spoon or fork, but you may need a napkin. In this box:
Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Dippers with Oat & Spelt with Berry Compote – I found the compote to be a bit on the sweet side, but it definitely worked in place of the dessert I was considering the night I had it.
Chai Latte dried fruit & nut mix – this one was really good and gave me a nice boost before doing my vinyasa yoga class.
Thai Sweet Chili Bites – definitely my favorite from this pack, the sweet and salty and savory balanced so nicely and was only 80 calories!
Southern BBQ Pistachios – these were also really yummy and I was surprised by how much flavor they got into the shell, a nice smokey bbq flavor.
I didn’t change any preferences after I finished this box because everything was great!

IMG_1196
Two weeks later, I received this box filled with:
Tutti Frutti mix– a blend of dried fruit which I enjoyed on my lunch break at work when I was having one of my frequent sweet cravings. I love that all of the fruit is still soft and chewy and tastes very fresh.
Honeycomb Flapjack – this one I definitely wanted to eat on a day I knew I’d be getting in a workout, because at 240 cals, it’s one of the more caloric options available. The taste was insanely good, but could have just as easily been had in place of dessert.
Fruity Mango Chutney – now, this is surely a personal preference, but I HATE cumin with such a passion, I actually spit this out, not knowing that cumin was one of the ingredients. Some may love it, but I quickly removed it from my options online.
Chili & Honey Almonds – OMG, are these things addictive. I will say that with almost all of the Graze boxes I’ve tried, I don’t feel left wanting after I’ve finished the pack, with the exception of these guys.. I could have had like 2 cups of these. So good.
After this box, I decided to up my frequency to every week, because it really was saving me time and money if I had not planned ahead from not going to the vending machine to buy some crappy processed food with no health benefits that had been sitting there for months. I can just throw the whole box in my work bag and decide which snack I’ll have based on what kind of food I’m feeling and how many calories I’ve allotted for the day.
It did take another two weeks to get my next box, adjustment time which I was fine with, and here’s what I got:

IMG_1266
Aren’t the boxes just the cutest!
Herby Bread Basket – I was surprised to like this one as much as I did, even with the pronounced herb flavor staying with me longer than I would have preferred haha! It was a great savory crunchy mix.
Popping Corn – Lightly Salted – the flavor of this wasn’t anything out of the ordinary, but definitely included enough popcorn (along with some blackberries and a yogurt I’d left in the work fridge) to help me through a day of forgetting to bring my lunch!
Beach Bum Mix – another great combo of dried fruit, soft and wonderful.
Caramel Apple (dried apples and caramel dipping sauce) – this one again I felt was just a touch too sweet with the caramel, but you get just the right amount of it to avoid that sugar rush.

A few things to note about Graze…
The expiration dates can vary. They’re listed on the booklet that comes in each box, along with the nutrition facts and ingredients for each snack. I’ve seen them vary from several months to just a few weeks, so definitely something to stay on top of if you’re not planning on eating the goodies right away like I do.
Another thing I wanted to mention is that I only eat these as a part of an estimated 1,400 calorie, relatively healthy and fresh meal plan. I’m not advocating eating all of your food out of pre-packaged pouches (the horror!), but these are convenient, inexpensive, and generally health-conscious snacks to supplement a balanced diet. I strive for a 350 calorie breakfast, 400 calorie lunch and dinner, and 200 calories of snacks. I bump that up a bit when I know I’m going to be exercising that day, so I have enough energy for my workout.

I’ve recently upgraded to the 8-snack box option, but reduced frequency to every other week, so essentially the same amount of goods, but I will get them all at the same time so I’ll have more to choose from. This option is $11.99, and the 4-snack option is $6.99, with shipping included.
All in all, I highly recommend Graze and will continue to purchase it until I get bored, although with all of the options, I’m not sure when that will ever happen! If you use the code ZVXGLZT6P at sign up, you will receive your first and fifth box on me free of charge, and can cancel the subscription at any time! I do get $1 off my box for referrals (disclaimer) but I would be recommending this service regardless, because I think it’s pretty awesome.

I hope you all enjoy!
😀
