Getting Your Best StitchFix Ever

January 10, 2018

This post was created in partnership with StitchFix. Items in the post were provided to me for reviewing purposes. This post also contains affiliate links. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

DSC_0259Hey, babes!
I hope everyone has had an incredible beginning to the New Year! Mine has been SUPER productive, and I am so excited to share that I have been spending a lot of my time planning my upcoming trip to New York Fashion Week! It’s less than a month away, so believe me when I say that I’m a little stressed getting everything lined up. Back to present day, I’m happy to bring you this month’s StitchFix, but this round is a little different… I’m also going to be sharing how to get your best fix EVER by communicating with your stylist, how to truly voice your opinion, and what I feel makes for the best fix.

In case you’ve been under a rock and haven’t heard about the awesomeness that is StitchFix, it is a service that delivers curated pieces to your door as frequently as you like. You fill out a detailed questionnaire, including how much you’d like to spend, your body shape, areas you like to flaunt/hide, and so much more, so they can really get to know your style. You send back what you don’t like, and they only keep the $20 styling fee if you don’t purchase anything from the fix, otherwise it goes towards whatever you buy, AND you get 25% off if you buy everything.

First up, communication is KEY! There are several ways to make your voice heard with your stylist. The one I always get very detailed on is the “note to stylist,” where I can request specific pieces for events, certain fabrics, lengths, anything that I would like to wear in the next couple months. When I was headed to Vegas year before last, I requested a “Vegas-worthy midi dress,” and for a brunch with the girls, I wanted an “off-the-shoulder floral top,” and that’s exactly what I received. I love that the stylists try so hard to match up my requests, and sometimes I wonder how much time they must spend searching for the perfect item for me!

I’ve also thrown out pretty broad requests, like in this fix, I wanted a pair of dark distressed jeans, colored blazer, and another midi dress. I was super happy with the pieces they selected, although the blazer was just a touch snug, so I’m currently wearing it as a cape! It’s also important to give feedback on past fixes, such as when something was too tight in the hips (usually the case with button-down shirts for me), or too short (I generally don’t wear anything above the knee). Once your stylist knows your tastes and fit more in more depth, they can use that info when planning your next fix.

Another way to share your style preferences is through creating and sharing a Pinterest board. We’re already all spending hours a day on Pinterest anyway haha, so start creating a board of styles you would actually wear, and link it for your stylist in your StitchFix profile! I have tons of midi skirts, floral prints, comfy cardigans, and fun work looks on mine. I know my stylist references it whenever she’s planning a fix for me, because influences from it are so apparent with her choices. It’s also so important, I believe, to focus on your lifestyle and what you truly will wear. If you work an 8-5, only go out to meet the girls for brunch, and don’t like showing your legs, than it’s probably not the best idea to link a street-style thigh-grazing look that you’ll never get any use out of. By the same token, if you’d like to get a little adventurous with color, patterns and prints, and maybe highlighting your décolletage for instance, don’t be afraid to share some pins that pull elements you’d like to experiment with.

I hope these tips have been helpful for you! It’s taken me a little bit to get my bearings with the service, but as you can tell by this being my 28th fix (!!!), I truly am enjoying it. StitchFix is offering to all of my readers their first styling fee waived! Now you have nothing to lose, and a closet full of cute clothes to gain 😀

The color of this blazer is so unexpected, and actually pairs with more in my closet than I anticipated. I can definitely picture pairing it with a floral skirt, or jeans and a white tee.

The mesh cutout on the back of this top is such a cute and interesting detail! I loved making a jeans and tee combo just a little bit fancier and brunch-worthy by adding a statement necklace and gold-specked ankle booties.

This top is definitely my favorite find of the fix. Mark and I went out to date night in this very outfit after my shoot, and I definitely turned some heads! The color is so saturated and the ruffle neckline is very flattering!

Don’t forget, all of my readers get their styling fee waived on their first fix! Hope you enjoy!

Hi, loves!
I’ve just returned from my first Staycation with the SoCal Blogger Babes and I have to say, I am happily wiped out! We made so many fun stops all around Costa Mesa, and I look forward to sharing all of the details on here soon!
I’m excited to share this look with you all, first because I adore it for this still in-between weather we’re experiencing, but also because it was shot by my boyfriend! I was warned by several of my blogging friends that they’ve had less than pleasurable experiences being directed by their S.O. but we actually had a blast and I took him out to lunch after.
I built my look around these “rose all day” bracelets from Aid Through Trade. They reached out a little while back and let me choose any of the stacks on their website, and these instantly grabbed my attention. I love that the stack has some shine and shimmer to it, but isn’t super showy. Don’t get me wrong, I do love a bold statement piece on the regular, but I also like pieces that whisper instead of shout.
The best part of Aid Through Trade, aside from their adorable and versatile roll-on bracelets, is the message behind them. They are created by over 200 female artisans in Nepal, and every purchase helps provide them with a fair income and benefits in a safe work environment. Nothing is better than a company that strives to give back and improve lives!
I’ll be doing a giveaway for any roll-on stack on the Aid Through Trade website starting tomorrow! Head on over to my Instagram for all of the details.

Plaid Swing Dress & Studded Ankle Booties

December 8, 2017

This post is sponsored by Gozon. Items were sent to me for reviewing purposes. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

DFT- Plaid at the Mitten - Holli Z Photography - 25Hello, loves!
Long time, no post. Sorry that I’ve been a little silent on here, but if you follow me on Instagram, you’ll already know why! I’ve been an active member of the SoCal Blogger Babes community, attending a lot of their networking meet-ups, holiday parties, launch events, and hanging out with some of the baddest blogging chicks around! I truly do miss getting on here and sharing my stories, styling tips, and new outfit finds, and I’m happy to say that I will be back on a more regular basis.
First up on my roster of fall outfits, because the season has most definitely rolled in, is this adorable plaid dress from Gozon. I adore the muted shades of grey with the pop of the red stripes, and how easily it can be dressed up or down. I paired it with black tights, studded ankle booties and a lightweight trench, but I can easily see it with a glam statement necklace and heels. It also has pockets, so, winning!
I’ve started to look to Gozon for reasonably-priced basics and on-trend items, like ruffle-sleeve tops, high-neck dresses and crushed velvet everything. They also carry plus-size items, most of which are the same as the straight-sized styles, and I can’t tell you how happy that makes me. It’s so annoying when brands offer like 10 not-cute items in plus to say that they have a plus line, but Gozon offers hundreds of styles for the extra curvy babes, and just as adorable and of-the-moment. They’re also currently offering 30% off and free shipping with code GOZONCY30 at checkout.
Styling tip, the sizing runs on the roomier side for this brand. I’ve ordered a Large in everything so far, and I usually skew towards an XL but everything has fit just right.

Paprika One-Shoulder Top and Shredded Denim

November 19, 2017

DFT- Red Evening on Eureka - Holli Z Photography - 2Hello, my lovely babes!
To be completely honest, I had never really been a fan of yellow or orange tones before this year. I feel that I am so fair, they usually wash me out. My theory hasn’t really changed on the golden tones, but I’m really starting to warm up to shades of rust, saffron, and persimmon. I think the richer hues are SO gorgeous for fall. I was surprised when I gravitated towards this top during a recent Nordstrom Rack “Steal the Rack” sale. I had been wanting to experiment more with the one-shoulder trend because I think it looks adorable on some of my fave babes on Instagram. This top was definitely a winner for under $10 during the sale!
I’ve found the way to make shades like this work is to pick a section on your body to focus the color, either the top or bottom, not both (like a dress). Neutrals like faded denim, black pants, or even a leopard print would work well with these tones, the reason why I styled this look the way that I did, also to keep from looking like a pumpkin 😉

Side note, I just returned from a party and overnight stay at Hotel Indigo in Downtown LA, and I can’t recommend it highly enough. The rooms are so spacious and luxurious, with not one detail overlooked. We dined at the hotel restaurant, Metrapole, and I would say the popcorn shrimp is a must-try. It was almost like a mini stay-cation, since we are only an hour away, but didn’t want to worry about driving home after the party. I loved hearing the backstory of the design choices, from the art on the walls to the decadent touches in every room and the nods to Prohibition.
