One Item, Five Ways ~ Cozy Chic

October 14, 2015

DFT-Downtown Session Picks10Partnering with Layered by Cake online boutique, this is my first post of a new blog series, “One Item, Five Ways.” I’m so excited to be kicking off these posts today, as I know that one of my constant wardrobe challenges is finding different ways to wear items in my own closet. I love being able to share with you all the ways to re-purpose items in your own closet that you may have stashed in the back because you’re not sure how to wear them.

This skirt is SUPER stretchy and flattering on all body types. I adore the palette for autumn and winter, but it can easily transition in to next spring as well. I’ve definitely been trying to keep an eye on my expenditures and a tight fashion budget for this season, so if you’re on the same page, hopefully these posts will inspire you to pick a few key pieces that can be worn multiple ways.

Mustard and Slate Ladylike Look

September 23, 2015

DFT-Club Sh_t Choices53
I’ve had this ASOS skirt for a few months now, and to be honest, have never really known what to wear with it. I was reading my friend Shannon’s facebook page (Layered by Cake), and came across her color wheel post. It inspired me to research color wheels a bit and I instantly thought of looking for shades to pair with this skirt! Mustard wouldn’t have been my initial thought, but I really like the way they play off of each other.

I love pieces like this necklace that bring together a couple of hues you wouldn’t normally think to pair up. I think accessories like necklaces and scarves are fantastic for inspiring new color combos. Next time you go to your closet, I fashion dare you to find a scarf with a couple different colors and plan an outfit around it!

On the note of a fashion dare, this look is number three in the style challenge I’m co-hosting with Shannon on Instagram for our #makeyourjeansjealous giveaway. There’s still time to join, you just have to post 5 looks by Friday. That could be a work look, a date night outfit, errand-running ensemble, etc. Just no jeans! Check out our pages on Insta for more details.

Nude Tones

September 23, 2015

DFT- University of Redlands41

You may recognize this Pleione midi skirt from a recent post.. I decided to go more tone-on-tone this time, pairing it with nude heels and a slate blue and blush patterned crop top. The bag is one of my picks this round from Le Tote, the clothing & accessory subscription service. For more info on Le Tote, or to sign up, click here to get $25 off your first Tote. If you do sign up, I get a commission, but obviously I’m using the service because I like and recommend it, it’s totally up to you! 🙂

This is day two of my Instagram style challenge with Shannon from Layered by Cake Boutique. The idea is to #makeyourjeansjealous and I think this outfit does just that! I would totally wear this top and heels with jeans, but swapping them out for the colorblocked skirt lends a more polished, feminine vibe.

For more details, check our Instagram accounts here and here, there’s still time to enter and we are giving away some fantastic prizes, including shop credit and designer earrings!

Casual Pineapple and My New Fave

September 2, 2015

DSC_0143It is with great pleasure that I introduce to you the newest member of my accessories family.. This lovely (and functional, it’s also a crossbody!) Botkier bag! I’d been wanting to own one of their pieces for a while, after falling in love with the Cobalt Trigger Small Satchel and the Black Trigger Crossbody I received from Rent the Runway.

This one took some effort to finally have in my possession, after the package containing it, two scarves and a necklace purchased from Rent the Runway were stolen off my front porch 🙁 I had to re-purchase it and wait another week for it to get to me, but I’ve been so happy with it ever since! It’s got oodles of places to put all of my necessities and a unique magnetic closure instead of a zipper for the main compartment.

I love a casual, effortless look like this that’s still put together. It’s always great to add in a surprising element (color, texture, print) to a white tee and jeans, and this adorable pineapple print scarf did just the trick!
