A Walk in the Park

January 17, 2016

Hooded2 Hello loves!
I hope this post finds you thriving in this sometimes daunting part of the new year! Resolutions have been made, lifestyle changes have begun to take place, and I wish for everyone a happy and healthy month. I’ve been attempting (mostly successfully) to channel a lot of my stress into committing to the 21 day fix/Beachbody program. I was introduced to the plan by Shannon at Layered by Cake, who connected me with my coach, Caitlyn (also the winner of our #weekwithoutjeanschallege). I met up with Caitlyn to deliver her prize, we ended up chatting for hours, and I discovered that she was involved with a lifestyle company called BeachBody.
I’ve been on the fix for 20 days now and will be taking a few days break before starting up again. I really feel like it’s a great way to get on a healthy, fit track. I have so much more energy, my clothes have been fitting more loosely, I feel stronger, and it actually does make me feel good to know that I’m doing something great for my body! Shakeology is hella expensive, but I love it mixed I with spinach and fruit (especially mango & strawberries or peanut butter and frozen cherries, yum!) in the morning for a nice energizing boost and the knowledge that I’ve gotten in a fruit, a vegetable & a protein before I even leave the house!
Whatever methods you use for creating a healthier lifestyle, I hope you have fun and enjoy discovering new ways of allowing yourself to feel better! 😀

Windowpane Top & A Special Message

DFT Prospect Prospects 403
Hello loves!
As many of you may know, I live in Redlands, CA, which was in the news recently as home to the shooters responsible for the massacre at the Inland Regional Center in nearby San Bernardino. It’s difficult to write this because the loss and devastation that occurred weighs so heavy on my heart. To think that any person could carry out the taking the lives of others to prove anything, period, makes me not only disgusted, but angry. I don’t want to live in a world where people (or my future kids) are afraid to go to a work party, to church, or to just express themselves and what they believe in, whatever that may be.
I’ve lived in Redlands for almost half of my life and it was definitely love at first sight. The vibe, the central location, the diversity of people and restaurants, the sense of community, everything fits for me and it truly feels like home. I’m not one of those people who says “Redlands is amazing, things like this just don’t happen here” because I’m not naïve. I know that this could have happened anywhere, in any city or town. But we are a strong city and will come together in times of crisis and adversity.
This Saturday, the 19th, many of the businesses in Redlands will be participating in an event to help raise money for the victims and families of the shooting. You can visit this Facebook event page to see the full list of businesses joining together for Bonded Strong – A Community for Peace. Some, including a la minute and Parliament Chocolate, will be donating all of their proceeds, as well as several restaurants and retail shops that will be donating a percentage from overall sales. I will be spending most of my day shopping, eating, and walking around to the different vendors, and I encourage all of you whom are in the area to stop by at least one of them to aid in this cause.

Olive Jacket and Leopard Booties

May 11, 2015

So I’ve had these Toms Chukka booties since 2 Scarlet Threads sales back, and they’ve yet to make it on my feet until today. I scoured Pinterest for a bit this morning, in search of outfit inspiration and actually came pretty dang close to the image I liked the most. My issue with them, I think, is that they’re so specific! I believe they’re made of jute, and have an espadrille-like heel, so they’re definitely geared toward summer pairings, but they require socks which makes my feet get all warm, and something about the print seems to clash easily with a lot of things. I think they work well with the outfit I came up with, but they rubbed against my heels all day (the end result I’m sure will be a blister), so I will inevitably be putting them back in the pile for Scarlet Threads for them to go to a new home in July. I’m sure someone out there can make them work!
For the rest of the look, I wanted to keep it texturally interesting, with the help of this gathered t-shirt from Elizabeth & Clarke. From previous posts, you probably already are aware that I’m a bit obsessed with this olive jacket, so that was a no-brainer. I added some antiqued gold bangles and a tassel necklace from Elizabeth Stone and I was all set to go to lunch and do a little light shopping with the boyfriend.. I’ll spill the beans.. We stopped in to Nordstrom and I picked up my very first Rebecca Minkoff bag.. Two of them, in fact! They were deeply discounted and I had a $20 off Nordstrom note, AND it’s triple points weekend. Triple score!
Side note, I totally didn’t notice until editing these that when my pup came over to see what I was doing he dropped a piece of his toy near me. Oops! I love my dogs 😀

Fall Shoe Edit Part Two

November 12, 2014

My first shoe edit this season was definitely more black-and-white themed, so I decided I needed to inject a bit of color into my footwear as the weeks progressed. I fell in love, surprisingly, with New Balance sneaks after a recent trip to their outlet. They are exceedingly comfortable and I love the fun color combos. The J.Crew flats and TOMS Botas were scores from the Scarlet Threads Consignment sale. Both were brand new and around $20 each!

I had purchased another pair of knee-high black leather boots from Shoemall.com but had to send them back for a refund… They had been shoddily pieced together and were already forming a hole around the calf on their first wear out! I also must say that I was thoroughly unimpressed with Shoemall’s customer service, I will not be using their site again. Now, on to the new kicks!

I’m hoping that all of these comfy sneaks will come in handy during my upcoming trip to New York! From what I hear, there will be a lot of walking involved 😉

What are your packing tips? With just a carry-on allowed, I’m going to need all of the help I can get!
