Mini Florals & Knee-High Boots

December 9, 2015

DFT Prospect Prospects02Well, hello loves!
I hope everyone is doing well and keeping mostly sane around these crazy holiday times. Mark and I braved Costco AND Sam’s Club yesterday and managed to get out of there relatively unscathed (and spent under $100!). I saw a lot of folks stressed out and I wanted to tell them to just calm down and enjoy this time. The holidays for me have never been about “winning” or who has the best of something, or even worse, who got the best gifts. It’s about family, friends, awesome food, relaxing and fun times!

Now for the outfit, because you knew I would get there eventually.. haha! I’ve had this floral print dress for maybe a decade and I seem to only wear it in the fall because I think it works so well paired with rich cognac and ruby tones. Dark florals are one of my favorite trends this year, because they are the perfect blend of feminine and edgy, kind of what I’m all about 😉

Merlot & Cognac

November 30, 2015

DFT Prospect Prospects 205
Well, hello there! Fall has definitely arrived in California, and we can all rejoice in breaking out the sweaters, scarves & boots we’ve had in storage. I have a “healthy” collection of sweaters, mostly in the neutral color range (cream, black, grey, etc.) but my fall wardrobe was calling out for something crimson. I came across this Forever 21 sweater recently when browsing their website, and for around $20, I knew I couldn’t go wrong.. It has a slouchy fit, nice open weave, and a back cut-out detail that I love.
Speaking of neutrals, I’ve come to learn that leopard-print really can act as one, when it’s paired with the right tones! It can look great paired with cobalt, olive, magenta, really any shade, including other neutrals. I’ve been wearing these ankle-strap flats from Sole Society at least a couple times a week recently, and if you’re on the fence as to whether you should pick up a pair because you’re not sure what you’ll wear them with, I say, do it! Life is too short to wear boring shoes 😉

Black & White Print Mixing

November 16, 2015

DFT University Grads72Something that even I will admit to falling in to is a work-wear rut. The same pieces keep making appearances day in and day out… You know the ones! Those black pants, worn-out flats and basic button-downs that are so uninspiring to wear (and to see others wear!) That is why, every now and then, I like to shock my work wardrobe with some decidedly non-basic pieces. This striped midi skirt, even if worn with a plain black top, is still going to bring some personality to your look. Same goes with the sheer windowpane print top- paired with skinny black pants and booties, some killer jewelry and even layered with a cardi and you’ve got a smart, work-appropriate, but not staid, look!
Accessories are also great for breaking up the monotony, and I always try to incorporate a piece with a couple colors to compliment a black & white ensemble.

Rebecca Taylor Print Maxi

November 12, 2015

DFT University Grads46 Dress number two from Rebecca Taylor by way of Rent the Runway. Another gorgeous print I fell in love with! The styles are also similar, with a self-tie waist-cincher, button-down front, and ruffled cap sleeves on both dresses. The maxi flows beautifully when you walk, allowing a little leg to peek out too.
This dress would actually be the perfect thing to bring on the upcoming cruise (4 days in Catalina/Ensenada) I’m planning for! I’ve never been on a cruise before, so I’ve spent my recent downtime at work researching every little thing I shouldn’t be caught without.. I’ve already locked down my “formal dinner” gown here, and only have one swimsuit so no guessing game in that department. It’s the in-between time that I’m trying to figure out dressing for. I’d love to hear your tips on dressing for a cruise!
