Dressing for Thanksgiving with Rent the Runway

November 26, 2016

Dressing for Thanksgiving with Rent the Runway - Shoshanna Lace Midi DressHello, loves!
My favorite family holiday has always been Thanksgiving, and I’m beyond excited that Mark and I are currently visiting family back east this year. I really don’t have to worry about the finicky “fall” weather, because I knew what we were getting in to.. Cold, chilly, and occasionally wet. As a southern California girl, my closet isn’t exactly brimming with puffer jackets and snow boots, but that’s why I’ve become a master of layering. Getting back to the main event, Thanksgiving dinner also happens to be one of my favorite events to dress for. It’s meant to be fancy, without being fussy. Dressing up with family and friends, not to impress, but to express how festive the occasion is.
I don’t have a large family, which makes me ever more grateful, and thankful, that Mark’s family has taken me in as one of their own. There are several like-minded fashion ladies in the bunch, and it’s always fun to see how they’ve styled themselves! Last year, I wore a flirty little lace and satin dress from Erin Fetherston to dinner, borrowed from Rent the Runway. I’ve been using their services for a couple of years now, and am frequently stunned at their vast selection of dresses and accessories and fantastic customer service. If a dress doesn’t fit, call them and they’ll send out a replacement. The dress you ordered was damaged by the last person who wore it? They’ll let you select another, free of charge, and even help you find the perfect alternative.
Rent the Runway asked me to style and share a few looks that I would wear to Thanksgiving dinner, and I had so much fun putting them together. I’ve linked to the exact dresses I’m wearing, feel free to check them out, and let me know.. Have you used Rent the Runway before? What did you think of the service?
I’d love to hear your thoughts 🙂

A fancier take on Thanksgiving festivities for sure, this dress is flattering and leaves room for seconds (or thirds) and is a classy option for wearing to a family dinner.

I love the idea of taking a fancier cocktail dress and making it more casual, while adding a bit of warmth at the same time. This LBD would also look great with a little moto jacket or lightweight trench thrown over it. This is a perfect look for Friendsgiving.
From my family to yours, happy belated Thanksgiving!! I hope it was a fantastic time, spent with loved ones and enjoying yummy food!

Fall Vibes

November 21, 2016

Fall Vibes - Full Outfit Details There are a few things for me that give off those quintessential fall vibes… Colors of mustard, burgundy, and cognac; nubby textures of corduroy, soft knits in the form of open cardigans, scarves and slouchy caps; knee-high boots to keep out the new chill in the air. It’s finally starting to look like we can begin wearing these items in southern California! It’s actually been raining on and off today, which, totally random side note, makes people in my area drive soooooo slow. Like 10 under the speed limit slow, I was almost late to work today!
If you happened to read my latest Stitch Fix review, you may have seen that these corduroy pants were not exactly love at first sight, that was until I tried them on. They’re so soft, provide a whole lot of warmth, and the color is much more versatile than I initially thought it would be.
I’d love to know, what are your fall staples?

Fall Florals & Rust Skirt

October 25, 2016

Fall Florals & Rust Skirt - Full Outfit Hello, loves, and happy Monday!
I hope everyone had a great weekend. Mark and I had a lot of fun things planned, and I had every intention of posting some of them again on Instagram stories, but the rain kind of squashed that idea when the main event was outdoors! I know we need the rain and I actually enjoy it, even driving in it isn’t so bad, but not when an entire Sunday afternoon is supposed to be devoted to walking around a few city blocks viewing art crafted by locals. We ended up spending most of our time out of the downpour in the beer garden (surprise, surprise), and even though our original thought was to take some pictures while walking around like we did during the last art walk, I told my photographer Holli to leave her camera at home, and let’s just make the most of this super rainy day! It worked out pretty well; we dined at a phenomenal food truck called Fire Pizza, which I hope finds a brick & mortar location soon so we can indulge on their tasty pies more often. Holli and the other girls found some gorgeous handmade jewelry, while I restrained as I prep for an upcoming no-buy (I’m thinking until Black Friday).
The day before, Mark was a part of a nostalgic 80’s road rally, along with 30 other cars, while I hiked a 5k on a new trail in town, and then went to work (less fun). It was a nice re-set and I think I’m going to start mapping out nice little walks to take on future Saturdays. I got 14k+ steps that day, go me!

As you may know, I’m obsessed with fall florals, and have already worked them in to a couple of looks on the blog here and here. Spring florals are lovely; you know, the pastel, floaty petals on airy fabrics. But there’s something a bit moody and brooding about darker tones and bolder blooms on sturdier fabrics. I love working them in to pieces you wouldn’t expect, like this bomber jacket, similar to one I just purchased.

September Stitch Fix

October 8, 2016

September Stitch Fix - Blue Trench, White Blouse, Statement Necklace Welcome to my September Stitch Fix!
This month, I requested from my stylist a grey sweater, a midi dress, colored jeans, a trench coat, and another fun item of my stylist’s choosing. I mostly got what I asked for, but it wasn’t quite what I was expecting. The trench was a darker blue, not quite navy, which I actually appreciated it being in a non-standard shade, and it was still very versatile. When playing around with outfit possibilities it went with nearly everything I paired it with! The only major downside was that it wrinkled like CRAZY. I don’t feel like carrying my steamer around with me, so back it went. I was wanting a more neutral, chunky knit grey cardigan, instead I got a 3/4 sleeve, lightweight printed version. Still super cute and I thought it paired perfectly with white denim. The wildcard item was a lace strappy tank. It was a little too festival-season for us to be going in to fall, so it also went back. Read on to check out the rest of my September Stitch Fix.

Trench, $88, returned.

September Stitch Fix - Grey Cardigan, Tank, White Cropped Pants, Ankle Booties September Stitch Fix - Printed Grey & White Cardigan, Grey TankCardigan / StitchFix // Tank / Forever 21 // Cropped denim / Old Navy // Clutch / Scarlet Threads Consignment // Booties / Target // Bracelet / Kendra Scott via Rocksbox (use code “kristinbff320 for 1 free month)
You’ll recognize this look from my last post. I love this piece because it’s so soft, has fun fringe detailing at the bottom, and it’s the perfect “throw it on over a tank and jeans and go” item to make an outfit complete. This one was a keeper. Cardigan, kept, $54.

September Stitch Fix - Striped Midi DressThis midi dress just really isn’t my style at all. I’m not drawn to the print or the halter neckline, and the fit was way off. Dress, $68, returned.

September Stitch Fix - White Lace TankDo you see what I mean about the Coachella-worthiness of this top? It’s just not my thing, plus it was a very small large. Tank, $54, returned.

September Stitch Fix - Purple JeansAnother permanent on my wishlist is colored bottoms. These were definitely more purple than burgundy, and I didn’t see these as getting much use this fall and winter. Jeans, $88, returned.

All in all, I ended up keeping just the cardigan. Next time, I’m going to ask my stylist again for another grey cardigan or sweater, something more cozy and chunky knit. I’m also in the mood for a new crossbody bag or maybe a pretty print scarf.

If you’re interested in trying out Stitch Fix for yourself, feel free to use my referral link. I get a commission if you sign up, but know that I wouldn’t recommend a service that I wasn’t personally using and loving myself.
