NY

January 14, 2015

New York at the holidays. I can’t think of a more perfect time to visit. Yes, it was chilly, but that made it that more delightful to slip in to a little coffee shop for a cappuccino or French restaurant for a bowl of soup and to watch through the windows as people walk by. And, also, sales! In addition to the J.Crew jewelry I’ve already posted, I made my first ever venture into Inglot! I’ve been following the brand for a while now, but can’t exactly say that it’s accessible in the states. I was so happy to take a crash course tour of the island of Manhattan; below, some highlights.

Myself, Mark and Mark’s brother, Jack, at the incredibly inventive restaurant/gourmet grocery store hybrid, Eatily. I LOVED the concept of different little stations for crudo, vegetables, paninis, etc. Given the option by such courteous gentleman, I chose the crudo station. Succccch a good decision.

This trip, my first to New York, was one of the most special and meaningful trips I’ve ever been on. Spending time with the family of the love of my life and seeing how everyone comes together with love and support… Touched my heart. I can’t wait to go back to experience more of all that New York has to offer.

Boyfriend’s Birthday Dinner

July 25, 2014

This year, the boyfriend decided he wanted to go more low key. Considering all that last year’s bday for him entailed, (a Cessna plane ride, hiking trip in Malibu, lounging at the beach, and a dinner downtown with friends), I was admittedly happy to only have one decision to make this year while planning for his celebration.. Where we would eat! It was randomly suggested that we check out The Grand Oak Steakhouse, in a town about 30 minutes away from us, for their steak and fine dining atmosphere. Finding ourselves a bit early for our reservation, we first stopped by the lounge for some drinks..

The boyfriend ordered a trio of beer samples from a local brewery. I had a delightful cocktail called a Berry Sensation, which had blackberries, blueberries, and raspberries, Blueberry Stoli, and some other goodness. I would definitely return for a laid back evening spent in the lounge, listening to the live music and sippin on a couple of cocktails…
Next up, the food!

I went for the Prix Fixe menu, and decided on a super tasty salad of arugula, roasted peaches, Marcona almonds, mozzarella and a pesto vinaigrette; the Mediterranean Dorade with potatoes and seasonal veggies with a basil pesto; and the dessert tapas sampler. Mark ordered the NY strip steak, which he enjoyed immensely. I was expecting tiny little bites for the dessert, and certainly not 5 of them, but they were all divine! I definitely recommend this spot for events and special occasions, although perhaps not for a younger or louder crowd.

And of course, my bathroom selfie!!

My gold brocade dress was a purchase from the Scarlet Threads Consignment Boutique.

Dinner at Dregs

June 3, 2014

One of my favorite aspects of living in the town that I do is the amount of restaurants that offer up seasonal local menu items. It’s pretty great knowing that the lettuce on my salad was grown 2 miles away (not only increasing it’s freshness but reducing my carbon footprint), and the citrus in my dessert comes from orange trees that I pass on my way to work. One of my favorite ways to experience this local resourcefulness is by a visit to the Dregs. Because we don’t go too frequently, perhaps once every 2 months, we are treated to a fresh menu each time. This round, we came across baby octopus on a bed of frisee with spicy lime dressing, oxtail poutine with a fried egg on top, and the boarizo burger (boar meat mixed with chorizo), and a side of mixed veggies. The appearance of the little octopi was of course a little off-putting at first, but they were bursting with savory, smoky goodness. We also had some red wine and beer, respectively, and a deconstructed berry turnover a la mode, but it looked too tempting to take a picture of before diving in!!

I Dream of San Fran

April 6, 2014

There are few places that I enjoy visiting more than San Francisco. Yes, it’s cold and frequently a pricey excursion. But the views, the awesomely random people you meet, the FOOD, the often abrupt transportation, the fast pace, the shopping, and that sense of adventure that comes with each visit is worth every cent. Here are a few shots of our recent trip up North in celebration of my dear friend Jess’s birthday.
