Elevated Basics with Ellie & Adair

April 29, 2017

Elevated Basics with Ellie & AdairHello, loves!
I know I have very much been slacking on getting posts up, but I was deep in sickness (bronchitis/sinus infection) for almost 3 weeks this month, and I’ve had little to no energy to do anything beyond robotic functions until this week. Thankfully, I’m feeling at about 95% and ready to get back in to the swing of things!
OK, so when I first heard the term “elevated basics” I kind of scoffed at it. Like, basics are just that, meant to be paired with more interesting and vibrant items. I’ve come to a realization that they’re actually just what my closet was missing. Most of these pieces are simple enough to be able to pick a top and a bottom and just tie them together with the accessories. My definition of an elevated basic is something that is at first glance quite simple, like this t-shirt, but then it has added details to make it a bit special. The subtle broken grey stripes add interest but aren’t distracting, regardless of what I pair it with. The gathering at the bottom gives that “tucked-in” vibe, but is much more flattering and even covers a bit of a tummy bump. I’m just now starting to work on my “summer body” (Vanderpump Rules shoutout), so this top paired with some black skinnies is great for camouflaging a little tummy.
Black jeans are classic and pretty much go with everything, but I’ve cuffed them up a but to show off my shoes. I consider these sandals elevated basics too, because they’re a simple shape and color, but have added gunmetal studs. I paired all of those pieces with some super sparkly layered necklaces and a simple black bag with gold hardware, and the look is complete! I would wear this outfit almost anywhere, from running errands during the day, to a casual date night or brunch with my girls.
I would also wear this shirt with a denim skirt, white capris, even with my black work pants. It’s super versatile! This and other cute, super affordable elevated basics are available on Ellie & Adair’s website. This top, believe it or not, is under $25, and they’re offering a 15% discount on top of their already crazy low prices to all of my readers with code “VIP15”! Go check them out 😀

Moody Florals with Mint Julep Boutique

March 31, 2017

Moody Florals with Mint Julep Boutique Hello, loves!
Today, I’ve partnered with an awesome online store called Mint Julep Boutique to share one of their gorgeous floral maxi dresses! They have SO many cute maxis on the site right now, it was difficult to choose, and I already want more of them in my closet! This one is called Peaceful Paradise, which I think is quite apt for a dress this pretty. One thing I will say, is that I found the background of the dress to be black, not navy, as stated on their website. I could be imagining things, but my photographer and boyfriend agreed with me! I wore it with a light denim jacket to ward off the chill that’s been hitting us recently when the evening rolls around. For accessories, I paired my new espadrille wedges (hello, 90’s shoutout!), a stack of glimmering gold bangles and my favorite crystal necklace.
I’m also loving the look of the Garden Stroll, the Visions in Bloom, the Living Fantasies, the Beauty Abounds, and the Happy to Bloom maxis. Like I said, they have SO many cute options to choose from right now! Be sure to sign up for their emails, so you can get $10 off your first purchase! The dresses are already very reasonably priced, so this is just the cherry on top. Keep scrolling to see the full look, I hope you enjoy it!

March Stitch Fix

March 30, 2017

Hi, loves!
This month’s Stitch Fix will be short and sweet. For this fix, I had requested a navy or grey crossbody bag, a lacey top, another light layering piece, floral print something, and I wanted to try my luck at another pair of jeans. I have to say, this was one of my most disappointing fixes to date. The price points were outstanding and totally within my budget, and had some of the pieces fit better, and/or not been damaged, I likely would have kept the whole box! I hate to say it, but I didn’t even want to waste the time this month, showing how everything looked, so we just shot the items themselves. Read on for the rest of my thoughts on my March Stitch Fix!

March Stitch Fix - Aqua Lace BlouseI was really excited to take this one out of the box, but soon realized it had a few problems.. First off, there was a large snag in the lace neckline. It was not something I cared to invest time or money in fixing and realized if it was that delicate, I’d probably end up unravelling it some more. THEN I noticed there was a small oil stain on the front! It definitely went back. Top, $38, returned.

March Stitch Fix - Floral Halter BlouseAgain, I would have totally rocked this top, had it fit properly. It was perfect around my hips, but had these gaping pockets of fabric under my arms! So unflattering, and I have no idea what body shape this would have worked on. Blouse, $44, returned.

March Stitch Fix - Navy Crossbody BagSo, this would be the item I did keep. It was reasonably priced, functional, and quite comfortable to wear. It’s a touch darker than I had pictured, and had an odd bright blue mark on the side, but I didn’t want to lose my styling credit, and this was the item I pictured myself getting the most use out of. Bag, $48, kept.

March Stitch Fix - Skinny JeansAlright, so these jeans had the weirdest fit EVER. When I got them pulled up, I noticed there was still a bit of material in the crotch area, like I needed to pull them up more, but they wouldn’t go! So it’s like I had webbing between my legs. Also, the length was confused. They wanted to be cropped jeans, but they were too long to be “cropped” and too short to be full length, which was quite unflattering. My bum looked really good in this pair, but the other factors had me putting them right back in that bag. Jeans, $78, returned.

March Stitch Fix - Lavender Flyaway Cardigan Lastly, this uninspiring flyaway cardigan. I don’t mean to sound so harsh, but the color was just meh, the fit was meh, and I could never see myself reaching for it to complete a look. It was also a bit pricey for a piece that I would consider a basic at $54. Cardigan, returned.

Overall, the odds were not in my favor this fix. I’m not done with this service, as I continue to find things that I LOVE from Stitch Fix, but I’m hoping the quality and fit will improve next month.

I’d love to know.. When you get a less than fantastic monthly service, do you cancel right away or give them another shot?

Crisscross Florals with I Shop Simply

March 21, 2017

Crisscross Florals with I Shop SimplyHello, my loves!
It is so freaking beautiful outside today, and I’ve got all of the sliders and windows open, letting the subtle breeze roll in. I asked for just a little bit more warm weather and it seems that my wish has been granted! All the better for me to continue rocking these gorgeous floral tops and dresses that I’ve been living in for the past month.
I’m one of those people who could wear floral prints year-round, but there’s just something that feels extra special and feminine about wearing them in spring. Today being the first day of this flower-filled season, it seemed even more appropriate to share this fun and casual outfit. The top is from I Shop Simply, one of my favorite online boutiques. Their philosophy is something I can totally get behind.. Curating the most adorable, yet unfussy items and offering them up for crazygood deals. This top is only $25! I’ve purchased several other basics from them, as well as some of-the-moment pieces, and I’ve found the quality to be on-par with things I’ve paid 3x as much for!
I Shop Simply has been so great to offer all of my subscribers and followers 15% off when using the code “dressedfortime” at checkout! That’s even more savings on these lovely tops, dresses, basics, and bottoms. I’ve currently got my eye on the Summer top and the Rhonda’s Roses dress. Both are perfect for wearing through spring and summer. Happy shopping!
