Holiday Party Look : Sequin Tank

December 23, 2015

DFT- Caroline Favorites - 115Well, hello loves!
My third and final party look for the holidays is a simple, tried-and-true pairing of a sequined tank, a black blazer and skinny jeans. You can definitely opt for ankle booties if the weather won’t allow for heels (it’s been raining in Redlands since last night!) or even some knee-high boots with gorgeous hardware would be a fantastic substitution. This outfit I would definitely wear to a NYE party with friends.
Speaking of New Year’s Eve plans, currently, the idea is that Mark and I will be meeting up with a few couples for a little prix fixe menu action at a local eatery and then back to our house for some drinks to ring in the New Year. I have to work on New Years Day in the morning so I’m completely fine with keeping things local and low-key and this outfit will work perfectly for the occasion!

Mini Florals & Knee-High Boots

December 9, 2015

DFT Prospect Prospects02Well, hello loves!
I hope everyone is doing well and keeping mostly sane around these crazy holiday times. Mark and I braved Costco AND Sam’s Club yesterday and managed to get out of there relatively unscathed (and spent under $100!). I saw a lot of folks stressed out and I wanted to tell them to just calm down and enjoy this time. The holidays for me have never been about “winning” or who has the best of something, or even worse, who got the best gifts. It’s about family, friends, awesome food, relaxing and fun times!

Now for the outfit, because you knew I would get there eventually.. haha! I’ve had this floral print dress for maybe a decade and I seem to only wear it in the fall because I think it works so well paired with rich cognac and ruby tones. Dark florals are one of my favorite trends this year, because they are the perfect blend of feminine and edgy, kind of what I’m all about 😉

One Item, Five Ways ~ Work Chic

October 21, 2015

DFT-Downtown Session Picks33Post number two for my One Item, Five Ways series!
This look I would definitely wear to work for a meeting or for an interview. Remove the color-blocked blazer and I’d be all set for drinks with friends.
When searching for great workwear, I look for a few key factors…
First, I search for pieces that can be worn for different formalities. The blazer can easily be dressed down with jeans or a maxi, and the skirt can be dressed up with a button-down and a statement necklace and heels.
Second, I look for layering pieces to adapt to different climates. Especially where I live, in Southern California, it’s not unusual to go from it being 100 degrees outside in to a 70 degree office. Opposed to wearing a long-sleeved sweater, I opt for sleeveless or short-sleeved tops with a cardigan or light jacket on top so I can add or subtract.
Lastly, I love patterned pieces that incorporate multiple colors. It makes it a lot easier to throw outfits together and go. Prints like florals, stripes, and geometrics can all be worn to the office, although I wouldn’t recommend plaids as they can often read too casual.

Cali Cool Date Night

September 9, 2015

DSC_0062It’s difficult sometimes to make jeans and heels seem fresh for a date, but I say it’s all in the details. These D’orsay pumps have this sexy little curvature to them that I love. Cuffing the jeans (a style tip I picked up from Shannon at Layered by Cake Boutique) allows more skin to peek out to highlight the footwear (also helpful in this sweltering heat, they act as vents when you’re wearing skinny jeans haha!) Another fun detail from this look is the one-shouldered top from the quarterly blouse subscription service, Elizabeth & Clarke. It’s a flirty element that doesn’t leave you feeling too bare. I topped it all off with a very summery and fun scenic clutch that holds just the essentials.. cell phone, compact mirror, lipstick, gum, eyeliner, perfume vial, and credit cards/ID.
