Belted Maxi Dress and Wedges

May 3, 2016

Belted Maxi Dress and WedgesHi loves!
I have to say, I’m loving this BohoCheri belted maxi dress and wedges from DVF! The wedges are amazingly comfortable for how high they are and I’ve literally gone the whole day in them, running errands around town. Height and comfort, not to mention they’re super cute, it’s the best of all worlds! The dress is fun too because it has a beaded neckline for a little added interest up top, but also the hi-lo hemline allows it to flow beautifully behind me when I walk. Love!
I know that this is perhaps not the most sexy of topics to be discussing but today I wanted to talk about caring for your feet during summer. It is SO important to take extra special care of your feet in the warmer weather, not only for your health, but also because you’ll be showing them off a lot more! They can get all kinds of nasty, being held captive and sweaty in sneakers, being dragged across the bottom of swimming pools, etc.
The first thing I want to recommend is professional maintenance. I think it is important to get a pedicure by a professional nail tech at least once a  month. You can do it yourself for financial reasons, but I always feel that technicians are a lot more diligent and really get in there, as opposed to me who will just stop when it tickles haha.
Next, is to remove your polish in-between pedis. This step is crucial because it’s necessary to put down another strengthening/hardening coat often so that the chemicals from the colored polish doesn’t seep in and start eating away at the enamel of your nails. I learned this the hard way recently when I went to the nail salon and after my old polish was removed came an (informative) lecture about why my nails looked the way that they did.. They were slightly yellowed, and had little white flecks in them! Sooo not attractive, and I had no idea how harmful it was to leave polish on for a couple of months, by just being lazy and refreshing dark polish when it started to chip. He ended up having to sand down a couple of my nails to get them on the road back to good condition.
Along the topic of home maintenance, there are several other things that I would recommend keeping up on. I am obsessed with my Amope electronic foot file that I purchased off of Amazon a couple months back. I use the regular coarse type, but they also offer an extra coarse. This file is crazy efficient, and it’s both gross and riveting to use. You start rolling it around in the areas where you’re experiencing some dead skin or calluses (I typically reach for this once a week) and it just eats away at them, causing the skin to turn to dust and fly in to the air. I wish it was like a ped-egg, and it just collected in to a little well that was easy to dispose of, but no, the particles pretty much just float away. Like I said, gross. But so effective! After I use the file, I’ll apply some lotion. The other at-home item I definitely recommend having on-hand is a rich cream made for especially for feet. My favorite is the Set N Me Free (cheesy name, but whatever, it works!)  Foot & Callus Rub. It contains menthol, so it makes my feet tingle! Right before bed, I’ll rub in about a nickel-sized dollop on each foot, cover them with socks and head to bead. If you can’t stand to sleep with socks on, another option is to apply it just after getting out of the shower, when it’s easier to penetrate skin.
I hope this post has been informative and have fun showing off those pretty feet!
😀

Downtown Redlands Art Walk

April 26, 2016

Downtown Redlands Art WalkHi there!
I hope everyone is doing well today. I had a lovely relaxed weekend and then came back to a very busy workplace so I’m definitely glad that I had that time to decompress. Mark and I attended the Spring Downtown Redlands Art Walk on Sunday, and wow, I must say.. It gets bigger and more exciting every time we go. They had bike ramps set up, artists using spray paint to create massive works of art live as onlookers awed, and lots of great local spots that had set up pop-up restaurants for dining on the go.
This was our third time attending, and while I was sooooo close to buying a piece of framed art (a gorgeous botanical sketch), I left only with a hand painted card with the most intricate yet simple pattern of grey & white dots scattered about it. I’ve wanted to walk away with a great sketch or oil painting for some time now, but just can’t seem to make the jump to actually purchasing a substantial piece. I really am regretting not picking up that sketch though, because I got home and found the perfect spot for it! Oh well, perhaps next time.
It really brings me a huge amount of hometown pride to attend events like this. To live in a town that supports and nourishes all of it’s creative minds is incredible. Yes, we have great food and plenty of places to shop, parks and historical locations to explore.. But what sets us apart from other small towns is how much we really allow artistic minds to shine.
I’d love to hear from you, what is your town best known for?

Spring Florals with Gwynnie Bee

April 23, 2016

Spring Florals with Gwynnie BeeEvery time I hear the term “spring florals” or basically just those two words in the same sentence, it brings to mind a quote from one of my favorite love-to-hate-it movies, The Devil Wears Prada. The line of course being “Florals? For Spring? Groundbreaking.” Delivered with such dry wit from the inimitable fashion magnate, Miranda Priestly. It really does make you think though, like pulling out a floral-print blouse or pleated skirt for Spring brunch date doesn’t seem original at all. And yet.. it works. Every time. As you may know, I’m perfectly fine rocking floral prints year round, but there’s just something so sweet about wearing those designs when the flowers are actually in bloom.

This dress is another loaner from the curve-friendly rental house Gwynnie Bee. I’ve been enjoying renting from them for the past few months, but I think my experience is soon going to come to a close. It’s just too expensive for me at around $75/mo. for 2 items out at a time. There are some perks to the program.. For instance, you can alert them that you’re going to be sending something back and they will automatically start preparing your next shipment. You’re not getting that with Rent the Runway. RTR has a couple days turnaround, and that’s AFTER they receive your items back in house. I also like that they updated items on a near-daily basis, so there was always lots to choose from and to add to my wishlist. I’ve purchased a couple of the items they sent, and at a considerable discount off retail, which is awesome! The negatives would be that not everything is available in my size.. I’m a 12, and when I would pull up the new items, I’d click on something cute, only to find it wasn’t available in anything smaller than a 1X. So I’d have to remember to plug in my size to filter the results, and that would always end up taking away several cute options. In all honesty, if I didn’t have the admittedly overfull closet that I do have, and was looking for things to wear to work meetings or on business trips, I would definitely continue on with my subscription. Since I do have an abundance of things, I generally look to rental houses for special occasion pieces to wear to events, which I find Gwynnie Bee was really lacking. Their clothing is definitely more of an everyday, wear it to work or even a night out or for a date type feel, and I feel that I need something more upscale for that price tag.

My French Farm Spring Sale

April 21, 2016

Hello, loves!
You may have seen some sneak peeks of my shopping experience at the My French Farm Spring Sale on Instagram. Well, let me tell you, that was just the tip of the beautifully-curated, something new to see in every corner iceberg. I’ll tell you what I ended up coming home a bit later, but for now, enjoy a look inside a dreamy converted barn that has been transformed to a Parisian-themed pop-up event.

The pink chair was such a fantastic deal at $50 that I grabbed it and it’s partner, along with the matching pink & gold dot pillows! They are currently residing in my living room, as we were in desperate need of more seating in that space. I also grabbed a bunch of lavender, that cute little sign that says “good morning, beautiful,” which is something that Mark tells me every morning, and the silver & gold branch tray. As soon as Holli & I walked in to the barn, we both remarked on how wonderful it smelled, so I did some investigating and found out that it was one of the Tyler candles in the scent Pineapple Crush. I grabbed the large size, because I had a feeling it was the perfect Spring scent to make our home smell pretty, and I was right because it is burning right now on the kitchen table and smells delicious! I also purchased a charcuterie-themed picture for the kitchen, a pink & gold tea set, and a Paris-themed soap dispenser. I reallllly wanted to grab the gold entry table (seen in the picture above with all of the tea sets), but we already have one that works perfectly fine so I couldn’t justify it. I guess I can’t have gold everything haha!

If you’re interested in attending the next My French Farm sale, be sure to get on their email list. Also, be sure to check out their website, as they have some of the items from the sale available year-round, and their Instagram, for frequent inventory updates..
