My Love Of Julep

October 30, 2016

My Love Of Julep - Free 12 Piece SetHi loves!
So, in case you didn’t already know, I’m OBSESSED with nail polish. I’ve been doing my own nails, with the exception of a random manicure here and there for a special occasion, for a couple of decades now. Which typing right now makes me feel kind of old haha! Moving on, I really do enjoy playing around with polishes and effects and being able to change my color on a whim. Polish is such a cheap, easy way to freshen up a look! I’ll pick a color based on the outfit I want to wear, or a mood I’m in, so it makes sense that I would have 12 different shades of hot pink, right? Right. Enter my love of Julep.
I was first introduced to Julep when I came across a Facebook offer for “try us out, get a free 12 pc set of polishes.” The catch was that I needed to sign up for a monthly subscription service for beauty products. Not the worst thing, and I knew that I could cancel whenever I wanted. I went with the 3 months prepaid so it worked out to $19.99/mo. I LOVED the polishes that I got, pictured above. What happened next, I admit was a touch confusing. First, there is a “Maven Window” time frame… They offer up a possible set of items, ranging from polish to eye shadow to skincare and give you a few days to decide. If you don’t like something, you can swap it out or choose another set. You can also add on more items, which I so frequently do, even the whole month’s collection. You can also add on single items, like polishes at a big discount (sometimes $5 a pop), and items from past collections, pick 3 or more and they’ll throw in an extra little gift.
After that window has closed, the “Secret Store” opens. Here they have even more discounted items to add to your box. If you don’t want to go crazy with add-ons, just stick to your curated box and wait for it to arrive in the mail! I’ve enjoyed every box I’ve received, and always look forward to the next, and choosing items from the newest collection.
Julep is offering the same deal again to new subscribers; a 12 piece polish collection when you sign up for the monthly boxes, which you can cancel at any time. Use my link here and enter code FREEFALL.
Below are some of the boxes I’ve received. A little disclaimer, I purchased add-ons for all but one of the months. The standard boxes contain 2-4 items.

Dolman Top & Zigzag Skirt

October 29, 2016

Dolman Top & Zigzag Skirt - Full Fall LookHello, loves! I can’t believe that Halloween is already upon us! It seems like just yesterday I was trying to convince my coworkers to join me in dressing up like the ladies of the 80’s comedy “9 to 5” and them all looking at me like I was crazy (those party poopers!) I decided to strike out on my own and recreate Dolly Parton from the preceding decade, country singer Dolly in the 70’s! I’m so excited to throw on a gingham skirt and stuff my bra with about 8 pairs of socks. Oh, and the accent, can’t forget that! 😉
When putting this look together, I definitely wanted to create an outfit that was multi-functional. I would wear this ensemble to brunch, out shopping with the girls, on a casual date night (wedge booties are the PERFECT footwear for a date when you might be walking a fair bit or on uneven ground, you get a bit of height while staying comfortable), or even to work. The skirt is made of the comfiest stretch knit material, and the top is flattering on everyone, especially those (like me!) with a little tummy. I can’t wait to start pairing my pencil skirts with tights and a scarf when the weather allows. Check out my previous post here to see how I styled another versatile Stitch Fix knit skirt.

Chapstick Lip Butter Review

October 29, 2016

Chapstick Lip Butters ReviewWhen I was offered the chance to try the new lip butters from Chapstick, I jumped on it! I’ve always kept at least one form of balm in my purse, on my bedside table, in my car, etc. My lips get so incredibly dry, especially in the colder months, and I can’t be without something super moisturizing or I start biting them, even to the point of making them bleed (Yikes!)
I received three Chapstick Lip Butters to test out – Green Tea, Sweet Papaya, and Pink Grapefruit. The Sweet Papaya definitely spoke to me first, as I was craving at the time something fruity but not too citrusy. It has a fairly subtle scent that is slightly sweet and a bit tropical. The Pink Grapefruit is definitely a lot brighter and almost like grapefruit rind versus the fruit itself, but still quite pleasant. The Green Tea is the most subdued scent, just a touch floral and barely there.
The texture is a very luxurious, rich balm that glides on. I especially like it for wearing over stains, my fall-favorite lip product. It hydrates without blurring or smudging the color, which I have often experienced using a lip gloss. It also works great as a prepping product. I’ll put on a bit to soften my lips and plump up the little lines in them before brushing on a perfectly on-trend deep plum or burgundy shade. One thing that really detracts from a dark pout is dry, cracked lips! If you’re interested in trying the new Chapstick Lip Butters, they’re available for just a couple bucks at your local CVS or any other drugstore.

Fall Florals & Rust Skirt

October 25, 2016

Fall Florals & Rust Skirt - Full Outfit Hello, loves, and happy Monday!
I hope everyone had a great weekend. Mark and I had a lot of fun things planned, and I had every intention of posting some of them again on Instagram stories, but the rain kind of squashed that idea when the main event was outdoors! I know we need the rain and I actually enjoy it, even driving in it isn’t so bad, but not when an entire Sunday afternoon is supposed to be devoted to walking around a few city blocks viewing art crafted by locals. We ended up spending most of our time out of the downpour in the beer garden (surprise, surprise), and even though our original thought was to take some pictures while walking around like we did during the last art walk, I told my photographer Holli to leave her camera at home, and let’s just make the most of this super rainy day! It worked out pretty well; we dined at a phenomenal food truck called Fire Pizza, which I hope finds a brick & mortar location soon so we can indulge on their tasty pies more often. Holli and the other girls found some gorgeous handmade jewelry, while I restrained as I prep for an upcoming no-buy (I’m thinking until Black Friday).
The day before, Mark was a part of a nostalgic 80’s road rally, along with 30 other cars, while I hiked a 5k on a new trail in town, and then went to work (less fun). It was a nice re-set and I think I’m going to start mapping out nice little walks to take on future Saturdays. I got 14k+ steps that day, go me!

As you may know, I’m obsessed with fall florals, and have already worked them in to a couple of looks on the blog here and here. Spring florals are lovely; you know, the pastel, floaty petals on airy fabrics. But there’s something a bit moody and brooding about darker tones and bolder blooms on sturdier fabrics. I love working them in to pieces you wouldn’t expect, like this bomber jacket, similar to one I just purchased.
