Fringe Binge

Love love love this fringe kimono! It has amazing colors throughout the pattern that allow for some great shade pairings.. a teal bag, purple and blue bracelets, orangey-brown boots.. And is an ideal layering piece for making the transition from summer to fall. Kimonos can easily add that “third-piece” finishing touch when worn with a tank and shorts, a shirt and jeans, or leggings and a slim-fit tunic.

Chic and Cozy Plaid

As soon as I walked into the room for Holli to shoot this outfit, she said “Hey, I love a lumberjack look!” Me too! Plaid shirts are my go-to come fall. They work with jeans, black pants, buttoned up and tucked in to a skirt, etc. I also love the instant shade pairing opportunities that can happen when you throw on a plaid shirt. This one here obviously is red & black, but I also love the prints that combine random colors like tan, green, purple and burgundy so you can pull from those when accessorizing.

Mustard and Slate Ladylike Look

I’ve had this ASOS skirt for a few months now, and to be honest, have never really known what to wear with it. I was reading my friend Shannon’s facebook page (Layered by Cake), and came across her color wheel post. It inspired me to research color wheels a bit and I instantly thought of looking for shades to pair with this skirt! Mustard wouldn’t have been my initial thought, but I really like the way they play off of each other.

I love pieces like this necklace that bring together a couple of hues you wouldn’t normally think to pair up. I think accessories like necklaces and scarves are fantastic for inspiring new color combos. Next time you go to your closet, I fashion dare you to find a scarf with a couple different colors and plan an outfit around it!

Nude Tones

You may recognize this Pleione midi skirt from a recent post.. I decided to go more tone-on-tone this time, pairing it with nude heels and a slate blue and blush patterned crop top. I would totally wear this top and heels with jeans, but swapping them out for the colorblocked skirt lends a more polished, feminine vibe.
