Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Gardens

August 3, 2014

So these Living Social certificates had been burning a whole in my coupon box for around two years when we finally decided to make the 45 minute drive over to Claremont to experience the beauty and natural wonder that is the Butterfly Pavilion. They only have the exhibit open for about 3 months out of the year, and it’s normally just a small up-charge for entrance. My thinking was, why not wear a bright, rose-covered skirt and attempt to attract them to me?! It sorta worked…

A Day at the Races

July 25, 2014

Believe it or not, I’d never been able to experience before the exhilaration of live horse racing! Until recently, that is… Mark and I headed out for a day at the tracks, which included losing every bet we placed, 5 very watery dirty Bombay Sapphire martinis, a picture taken alongside a horse and jockey in the winner’s circle (which has yet to arrive at our house..sigh) and an opportunity for me to wear my favorite hat and new midi dress from Asos! Side note, I am slowly finding that everything I purchased from their website is at least one size too large (this dress included), which is good and bad, of course. I’m losing weight, woohoo!, but I’d also like for my clothes to fit properly. A little bow belt from F21 helped at least cinch me in at the waist.

All in all, we had fun, despite our losses (maybe $20), and would go back for another little Sunday getaway.

I Dream of San Fran

April 6, 2014

There are few places that I enjoy visiting more than San Francisco. Yes, it’s cold and frequently a pricey excursion. But the views, the awesomely random people you meet, the FOOD, the often abrupt transportation, the fast pace, the shopping, and that sense of adventure that comes with each visit is worth every cent. Here are a few shots of our recent trip up North in celebration of my dear friend Jess’s birthday.

BH Weekend

April 3, 2014

The boyfriend and I recently took a little overnight trip to Beverly Hills for relaxation and, as usual, some exploration. We stayed at The Crescent, an adorable yet luxurious boutique hotel just blocks away from Rodeo Drive. We were greeted with complimentary glasses of red wine and settled right into our cozy room. I especially took notice of the pendant chandeliers and hound’s-tooth fabric wall treatment.

After about 2 hours of painful (not really) discussion, we decided on Thomas Keller’s Bouchon for dinner. Although I do have something negative to say about their service, the food was truly the star of the evening. Chicken liver mousse with crostini, followed by a huge pot of mussels from Maine, steamed in white wine, Dijon and saffron, served with a side of French fries. Amazeballs. We were feeling pretty full after this amazing meal, so we took dessert to go…
