NYFW Day 2 Recap

February 21, 2018

This post contains affiliate links and was created in partnership with Essex LA, Pucker & DreamDry, and Mamo restaurant.

File Feb 19, 8 19 28 PMKisses from New York!
Welcome to my NYFW Day 2 recap, where I’m sharing all of the places we went, things we did, and tasty food we ate.
Our first stop, after Jamba Juice, of course, was to Pucker Makeup inside DreamDry in the Flatiron district. I wish I had more shots of the inside of the salon, because it is jaw-droppingly gorgeous, with luxe touches and glam finishes everywhere. Our dear friend Sydney, Danielle’s personal photographer, was able to grab a couple of shots of us, mid-makeup application, and right after before we left for our formal shoot.

File Feb 19, 8 26 06 PM File Feb 19, 8 23 33 PMSeriously, what a transformation! My makeup artist, Daisy (find her at @the_daisy_love), was the sweetest, and gave me a subtly smokey bronze eye, flawless skin, and a bright lip to match my booties, which she created on the spot! She even gave me a little sample of it to take with me for touch-ups. I realized that my hair was looking a little flat due to the dismal weather outside, and one of their hairstylists was able to touch up my curls in the less than 10 minutes I had before running off to our shoot. If you’re in the area, be sure to use code “SOCAL10” when booking to take $10 off your first makeup application.

File Feb 19, 8 12 53 PM File Feb 19, 8 12 16 PM File Feb 19, 8 15 58 PM File Feb 19, 8 14 02 PM File Feb 19, 8 17 08 PM File Feb 19, 8 20 17 PMWe shot with Chris Gray Studios at Union Square Park (after a 6 block jog) and the weather was only moderately on our side. It started to sprinkle during the first 20 minutes, and was actually pouring when we were wrapping up. We made it work though, which I’m so happy about because we got some great shots. We had a little downtime before our next location, so Sydney offered to take some shots of us acting like real New Yorkers, to hysterical effect.

File Feb 19, 8 26 20 PM File Feb 19, 8 26 56 PM File Feb 19, 8 27 31 PMOk, so in the first shot, we were not acting and were legitimately confused as to how to get to where we were going next. This was one of about 37 times when this happened. Navigation in New York succckkked and it seemed like no matter how fast-paced the city was, the GPS was never able to catch up to where we currently were, and directions like 41st St. between 9th and 10th Ave didn’t mean shit when you didn’t know which way 10th was.
The last shot was probably one of my faves from our trip, and caused multiple cabs to pull over in earnest, and I felt a little guilty then waving them off.

File Feb 19, 7 54 46 PM File Feb 19, 8 25 33 PM File Feb 19, 7 55 34 PM File Feb 19, 7 56 26 PM File Feb 19, 8 24 38 PM File Feb 19, 8 25 13 PMWe made it to Mamo a few minutes early in the POURING rain, and they were happy to accommodate us. I loved how attentive and knowledgeable our server was, without being overbearing. We ordered the calamari and veggie stack to start, and let me say that the calamari was some of the best that I’d ever had. At first, I was thinking, “where is the sauce?,” but then I realized that it didn’t even need it. For my entree, I went with the gnocchi, also delicious, and I loved that I could actually tell the difference in the tomatoes being ripe. I was considering dessert when Alison asked for us to try all 4 of the options, which I was happy to oblige in tasting each and every one of them, with the strawberry affogato being the winner in my book. I will definitely be back to visit next time I’m in the city!

File Feb 19, 8 07 06 PM File Feb 19, 8 07 36 PMAlison, Alyssa, and I Ubered over to our first show of the day, Colour by Nandi Madida. To be completely honest, we only caught the last 3 or 4 minutes of the show, due to having some issues at check-in, which would find to be a common occurrence at shows, so I don’t have pics to share. We wear able to watch the last look and the finale come down the runway, which you can catch on my NYFW highlights on Insta. From what I saw from the recaps, the line looked exquisitely tailored, with flattering cuts, and neutrals as well as bold looks.

File Feb 19, 8 08 27 PM File Feb 19, 8 08 56 PMOff to our next show, MacDuggal, which, again, we had issues at the door. I showed my confirmation email to different people and they still said I, nor the girls, were on their list. They finally let us up, 20 minutes before showtime, to stand in a crowded, cramped, overheated balcony area, where I literally got shoved out of my spot by a couple of former beauty queens wearing tiaras, not even kidding. I was able to get one shot before the show started, and one as I was leaving from a different angle, because I just couldn’t take the heat, or bitchiness, any longer.

We were just spent after this show, so we decided to skip out on the art show we had planned, and went back to the hotel to nap before dinner.
After a nice little siesta, we all (minus Alyssa, who was attending a friend’s 30th bday in the city), headed to The Liberty NYC, a lively happy hour spot, for dinner and to meet up with some fellow Style Collective and RewardStyle members. I was more than a little disappointed when only 3 out of the 11 additional guests showed up. I’ve learned that unless money is involved, people will flake for events like this. Next time, I’m requiring a deposit haha! I did have the chance to catch up with a couple of girls from across the US, so that was lovely, as was the Liberty’s spinach artichoke dip!

I hope you enjoyed my NYFW Day 2 recap… Day 3/4 is coming soon!

Puerto Rico Summer Vacay

August 11, 2016

If you follow me on Instagram, you probably caught that I recently traveled to Puerto Rico with Mark to celebrate the wedding of my friend/coworker, Amanda, to her longtime beau, Martin. We had been researching places to visit, restaurants to eat at, and things to see for about six months preceding the trip, and I still don’t think we were prepared! Puerto Rico has so much to offer.. The food was great, so much seafood, mofongo, and not overly sweet baked treats. There were museums, forts and cathedrals, and you pretty much had to take taxis wherever you wanted to go. We were lucky to have a little market called Pueblo right across from our condo, which made late-night beer runs and planning what to have for breakfast a whole lot easier. I tried to capture as much as I could, but also stay present in the moment so I could truly enjoy every experience. I hope you enjoy these pics from my Puerto Rico Summer Vacay!

Puerto Rico Summer Vacay Puerto Rico Summer VacayMark and I arrived a night before everyone else, so we decided to stay in downtown San Juan at the Casablanca Hotel. It certainly did have that old world kind of charm, and were thankful for the kickin’ AC.

Puerto Rico Summer VacayAfter checking in to the hotel, we headed next door to Gringos, a Tex Mex restaurant/bar that specializes in “smoked” drinks. After a long day of flying, Mark and I definitely enjoyed testing a few of them out, along with some fantastic food and funky décor.

Puerto Rico Summer VacayIn the morning, we walked along these gorgeous streets in Old San Juan, in search of a delicious meal at the highly rated Caficultura. We were both left entirely underwhelmed at the whole experience, from the food, to the service, to the hammering and drilling going on in the back room. Shaking that off, we continued our morning of exploring little gift shows and boutiques, picking up some framed butterflies and art prints of the city.

Puerto Rico Summer VacayFinally, I meet up with Rebekah, her mom, Martin and the rest of the crew. There were 10 of us staying in a condo in San Juan, and we basically had the entire floor, with tons of room to spread out.

Puerto Rico Summer VacayThe next day, while the girls and I wandered around some more downtown, Mark and the boys took a trip to the rainforest! I wanted to go, but it was kind of a boys bonding trip, and who am I to interrupt boy time? 😉

Puerto Rico Summer Vacay Puerto Rico Summer Vacay Puerto Rico Summer Vacay Puerto Rico Summer VacayThe next day, we took a trip to the beach!
Seriously, the most gorgeous beach I’ve ever been to. You could walk out in to the water 50 feet and still have your toes touching the sand. We stopped in to a hotel bar for refreshments and I loved their little lounge area.

img_0338The next day was the wedding, but as an attendee (maid of honor), of course, I wasn’t able to take many pictures of the event. It started raining, but tapered off as we neared the start of the ceremony. After, we headed to the Marriott for the gorgeous reception and enjoyed our first of many drinks, haha.

Puerto Rico Summer VacayThe morning after the wedding, comfort food from Libros AC was just what I needed to get back to normal. I also picked up one of those adult coloring books, which I’d been wanting for a while. I love the idea of having a full-fledged bookstore and coffee shop under the same roof.

Puerto Rico Summer Vacay Puerto Rico Summer Vacay Puerto Rico Summer Vacay Puerto Rico Summer Vacay Puerto Rico Summer Vacay Puerto Rico Summer Vacay Mark and I decided to branch off from the rest of the group and spend our afternoon at the Museo de Arto. Unfortunately, they don’t allow any pictures inside the museum, but we did manage to take some great shots in the garden area. Miles of paths with works of art on either side, gorgeous trees and plants, and a huge coy pond.

Puerto Rico Summer VacayOur last dinner in town was spent with the whole crew, back in downtown Old San Juan. It just so happened to be National Pina Colada Day, and who am I to not partake in such an occasion? 🙂

img_0442On the plane ride home, we experienced some inclement weather, meaning circling Orlando for an hour, landing in Tampa to weight for a thunderstorm to pass, heading back to Orlando, and then to Phoenix then Ontario. About 12.5 hours on the same plane. Kind of my nightmare but we made it! I took this picture, thinking that the clouds looked like a wolf breathing fire or something, but Mark thought it, ahem.. Looked like something else. Boys..
Anyway, that is all, I hope you enjoyed my little recap of my Puerto Rico Vacay!

Simply Stylist LA Conference

April 6, 2016

Hello loves!
I wanted to share with you all an event I attended recently at the Grove, the Simply Stylist LA Conference. It’s not my first time at this annual gathering, although last time I didn’t spring for the VIP package, big mistake! With the better, albeit much pricier ticket, I was able to enjoy breakfast, several incredible speaking panels, lunch at the French restaurant on-site, a “brand experience” on the lawn and then specialized sessions from industry experts, and ending the day with a killer gift bag. But first, let me start from the beginning..

Simply Stylist LA ConferenceI started my morning with a little chia pudding with fruit and coconut cream. It was simple, but so tasty. After breakfast, we all headed inside one of the theatres and waited for the panels to commence.

Simply Stylist LA Conference PanelThe first panel was moderated by Adrianna Costa, and featured some of my favorites from the entire event.. Louise Roe (such a humble, humorous woman), Morgan Stewart (outspoken and hilarious), and Lilly Ghalichi, who I knew from the first year of The Shahs of Sunset that I indulgently watched. I always thought she was a classy girl who knew exactly where she was going, and hearing her confidently speak about who she is and how she got there was inspiring. I loved Morgan’s honestly, and although I will admit I had not heard of her or seen her show before, I will definitely be on the lookout for her new book. Louise Roe seemed like someone I would want to spend the day with. She was so relatable and knowledgeable on many industry topics and I would love to sit with her and for lack of a better phrase, pick her brain some more.

Simply Stylist LA Conference Blogger PanelNext up was the bloggers panel. It was hosted by the friendly and approachable (and smokin’ hot!) blogger behind You & Lu, Loren Gores (more on my interaction with her later!). This panel included Carly Cristman, Kaitlynn Carter, Teni Panosian and Geri Hirsch. I’d previously heard about all of the panelists in this set, but I was super excited to hear from Teni, whom I’d been following for a while now. I love her soothing voice and her realness when something doesn’t go to plan (bug bites or an upset stomach when on vacation? She shares it all). She also is freaking gorgeous (girl crush moment) and has great personal style. I will say though that this panel was mostly taken over by Carly. I feel that she answered questions way more frequently than any other panelist and threw the balance off. I wanted to hear from everyone, but she definitely wanted to share more with us.
So after this panel, S.K. from Styles for Thought and I wanted to take some pictures, because, why not? S.K. writes a sustainable fashion blog and beautifully curated Instagram and we instantly clicked while listening to the panelists. I truly admire her point-of-view, bringing awareness to the production behind the clothes.

Simply Stylist LA Conference BloggersMy dress is from Parker (you can rent it using this link, but I actually loved it so much I purchased it while visiting the Rent the Runway warehouse in New Jersey last year), my glasses are Warby Parker, my ring is Kyle Chan Design and my heels (pictured above) are Nine West.
Right after taking pics, we saw that Loren from You & Lu was hanging out, talking with some other bloggers, so we joined in the convo. I could not believe how easy she was to speak with and how friendly and inviting she was. We discussed her workout routine to get that killer booty and Snapchatted for her followers on the way to lunch at The Morels restaurant.

Simply Stylist LA Conference Kendra ScottAwaiting us at The Morels was this pretty table setting with a supremely generous gift from Kendra Scott. I love Kendra Scott jewelry and was crossing my fingers that tucked inside was a pretty little bracelet or ring, but I had a momentary bit of sadness when I peeked inside and saw a pair of earrings. My ears are not pierced, so as beautiful as they are, I couldn’t wear them. I decided to re-gift them to one of my followers, and currently have a giveaway going on Instagram, if you’d like to check it out!
We dined on herbed chicken, grilled mixed veggies, salad and pasta, and I was pretty underwhelmed. I think that happens sometimes when restaurants try to cater to hundreds of people.. Overcooking, leaving things out for a while, etc. I’ll get the rest of the negative stuff out of the way, because I like to share all of the details. The table that we picked was half full when we arrived, and I sat next to Geri Hirsch. Her back was turned to me the entire time and it was kind of off-putting. I would have love to have chatted with her a bit, but she wasn’t having any of it. While eating my lunch, I was knocked in to twice by Sydne Summer of Sydne Style and her enormous handbag, and the second time she looked down at me and scoffed, as if I was in her way, when I was just sitting in my seat, enjoying the atmosphere. Definitely a low point of the day, because I’m not about bitchiness when we’re aiming to build each other up! But I digress.
Next, we were treated to an impassioned speech by Caitlin Crosby, the founder of The Giving Keys. She shares the story of how the Giving Keys came to be, and I could not have admired her more. It’s a beautiful thing when people want to give back to the community, while simultaneously creating wearable pieces of art to cherish.
She was so gracious and generous to allow us all to pick our favorite piece, and I chose a delicate little gold key with “love” inscribed across it.

Simply Stylist LA Conference Also pictured are the adorable cards I was gifted from Minted. They say “merci beaucoup” in gold, so obviously I love them, as I have a deep affection for all things gold.

After lunch, we headed back to the theatre and listed to a stylist and hair stylist, who admitted they were nervous and a little tipsy, respectively, which I think affected the quality of their stories and authority on the subjects they were discussing.

Simply Stylist LA Conference Tyra BanksThe last, and arguably most-anticipated speaker of the day was Tyra Banks. It was really interesting hearing about how America’s Next Top Model came to be, her early days in the modeling industry, and how she’s developed a new makeup line that uses an Avon-like business model. I felt like she was pushing the makeup line a bit, and I was excited to try some of it, but was surprised to not find any of it in the VIP gift bag. In a room full of bloggers and influencers, I would have figured it was the perfect time to introduce a makeup line, but what do I know 😉 Cat Sadler was Tyra’s interviewer and I think she did a phenomenal job at keeping the crowd engaged with cute little jokes and her high energy.
We then headed across the way to the grassy area, where brands like Kendra Scott, Want my Look, Minted and others had set up to show us everything new they had to offer. I fell in lust with several Kendra Scott pieces before heading over to the specialized sessions. To be honest, I feel that these were mostly for people just starting out, and didn’t really give me a whole lot of new information. From what I remember, there was a group of girls who started a hair stylist representation group, a financial advisor who was VERY passionate about what she was talking about, a petite blonde blogger named Sophie Elkus (Angel Food Style), Cali Cholodenko, whom I’d listened to earlier speak on social media, and Kristen Phillipkoski, who basically just interviewed someone else instead of contributing content of her own.
After the sessions, I met up with Mark and we started on the two hour drive back home.

Without further ado, here’s a look at my loot from my VIP gift bag…

Simply Stylist LA ConferenceSo much crazy-good stuff.
I was really impressed that I was gifted everything from makeup and skincare, vitamins to tasty snacks.
So to break it down, I paid $225 to be inspired by leaders in the fashion & blogging industries, a couple of light meals, and a jam-packed gift bag, valued at I’m guess at least double my price of admission. Would I go back? Yes, absolutely! I would also wear flats next time 😉

CA Gift Show and LA Mart

July 26, 2015

I so look forward to attending the semi-annual California Gift Show and LA Mart. It’s where I learn about all of the upcoming trends in jewelry, sample some fantastic gourmet food, and get miles and miles of walking in! Of course, I had my phone out to take pictures along the way 🙂

Rows and rows of vendors, selling colorful beaded pieces, and one of my favorite trends for summer, tassel necklaces.

Fell in lust with this butterfly diplay.

Kyle Chan is one of my favorite jewelry designers and a trip to the LA Gift Show is not complete without a stop by his booth. He creates the most beautifully simple pieces that really allow the natural beauty of the stones to shine through. I’ll be posting my buys from the show in a future post ?

Next up, we headed to the LA Mart, an open-to-the-trade only building in downtown LA. Almost everything here is for order-writing only, but I still get tons of inspiration for decorating and trends.

I should be posting my buys from the show later this week… And I got some awesome pieces that I can’t wait to share with you! I’ve already styled one of the necklaces on Instagram.

Another year, another great and productive show!
